SAN Beda College Alabang’s athletes proudly represented the school at the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) South opening ceremony held at Carmelo Q. Quizon Gymnasium in the University of Batangas (UB), the host institution for Season 24, last Feb. 24. Carrying the pride of their respective schools, athletes from 11 participating teams boldly entered the venue with the season’s theme “We rise, stride, and play as one” in mind.

Filipino athletes enter for Olympics qualifiers
EVER since Hidilyn Diaz’s historic win in the weightlifting category of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, other Filipino contestants have also bagged their gold medals in the Asian Youth and Junior Weightlifting Championships, like Vanessa Sarno and Rosegie Ramos. The Samahang Weightlifting ng Pilipinas (SWP), the national governing body for weightlifting and powerlifting in the Philippines, focused their eyes on the World Weightlifting Championships (WWC) for the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, where nine athletes, including Diaz, will be competing in the championships scheduled from Dec. 5 to 16 in Bogota, Columbia

CLOSING out the year with a set of games, the Mobile Legends Bang Bang Professional League (MPL) PH concluded its 10th Season with the Playoffs last Oct. 20 to 23, 2022, at the Blue Leaf Cosmopolitan, Quezon City. The four-day event saw teams RSG Philippines, ONIC Philippines, Bren Esports, Omega Esports, ECHO Esports, and Blacklist International battling for MPL-PH Champions.

CONQuest Festival 2022: Celebrate your Passion
RETURNING from a three-year hiatus, CONQuest gathered around 33,000 questers nationwide at the SMX Convention Center in Pasay last Jul. 23 and 24 for the country’s biggest face-to-face gaming, technology, anime, and pop culture convention of 2022. Fans were thrilled not just because the all-star guest lineup included their favorite local and international gamers, content creators, and voice actors; the festival was also jam-packed with 55 artist booths, 19 vendors, and three indie developers for them to explore.
End of Benching: Red Lions’ Rebuilding Blocks for Glory
REACHING back for active sports in San Beda College Alabang, the Red Lions Varsity Teams began recruitment over July in hopes of refilling their rosters with fresh team-players to secure collegiate championships once more. Due to the pandemic halting all physical activities, the situation has taken a toll on SBCA’ top sports teams, leaving two years of no new recruits and games left teams hungry for action.
Philippines Crossed Over from Gloom to Glee
GILAS Pilipinas came back to the field last June 30 for the last window of the first round, seeking redemption against New Zealand Tallies in Auckland after losing their first game against the Tallies last Feb. 27. The Philippine team eyed for another win against the visiting Young Cagers (India) in Mall of Asia Arena last July 3 where they redeemed themselves and scored another victory against India. The FIBA World Cup Asian Qualifiers’ first round started with 16 teams last February 2021, continued in November 2021, and came to its end last July 5, 2022.
NCAA 97: Resurgence after the Hiatus
TAGLINED as “Stronger Together. Buo ang Puso”, the 97th Season of the National Collegiate Association of the Philippines (NCAA) commenced on Mar. 26. It signaled the much-awaited return of Men’s Basketball and Women’s Volleyball Tournaments and also the chess and taekwondo tournaments. This season is hosted by De La Salle – College of Saint Benilde (CSB). It was originally set to launch on Mar. 5, but was later pushed back on the 26th to give the athletes more time to prepare.
