LAST Mar. 26, San Beda College-Alabang (SBCA) and the University of Makati (UMak) competed against each other at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum for the last time of the season as the 53rd Women’s National Collegiate Athletic Association (WNCAA)’s Volleyball Seniors’ Division Competition concluded with the SBCA’s Women’s Volleyball Team obtaining 1st Runner Up and UMak acquiring the gold.
Game two of the WNCAA Volleyball Finals began with SBCA building momentum that allowed them to surpass UMak with a score of 17-25. Meanwhile, UMak won the second set with a score of 21-25 after a heated play between both teams.
While UMak took the lead on the third set, SBCA requested a timeout due to a minor injury sustained by Jewel Rain Bolaños (M.A. in Psychology), the team captain. She was benched after the 16-6 mark, resulting in UMak scoring a 25-11. Though Bolaños’ return in the fourth set enabled them to catch up during the first few plays, UMak dominated with a five-point lead against SBCA. Ultimately, UMak secured the title of Champions of the 53rd WNCAA’s Volleyball Seniors’ Division Competition.
SBCA Women’s Volleyball Team was emotional as they received their silver medals and trophy along with their coach, Mr. Ryan Jeorge Sucaldito. Yet the team showed throughout the season that Red Lions will always give their all in every game and competition. As mentioned by commentators Ayie Elma and Daphne Christobal, “Bolaños is a fighter,” and her fighting spirit also encouraged her co-members. On behalf of the whole SBCA community, THE BEDAN HERALD would like to extend its congratulations to the Women’s Volleyball Team for a good fight. Animo San Beda!
