By Angelee Macasaddug |  April 20, 2023

THE College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) Sports Intramurals 2023 officially opened last Apr. 14 at the Sports Complex hosted by Dr. John Paul Domingo, the Vice Dean for Academic Affairs, and Fritzen Aldaba (II-BAP). Also present at the ceremony were Dean Atty. Juan Ruffo D. Chong and Dr. Andres Ignacio C. San Mateo, the Vice President of Academic Affairs (VPAA). It was marked by the parade of players, lighting of the torch, and oath-taking of sportsmanship.

A friendly reminder for a friendly competition

Atty. Juan Ruffo D. Chong delivered his opening remarks about ensuring a friendly competitive spirit throughout the intramurals. Dr. Andres Ignacio C. San Mateo also shared the same sentiments and advised them to always be humble in the midst of victory as well as to always be gracious when one faces defeat.

Let the 2023 CAS Sports Intramurals officially begin!

The program proceeded with the lighting of the torch by Jewel Bolaños (M.A. in Psychology), captain of the SBCA Women’s Volleyball team, and James Christian Yu (IV-BSBA-MM), captain of the SBCA Men’s Basketball team. This was followed by the oath-taking of sportsmanship of the players led by Pepin Earl Scandel Perido (III-BAIS), captain of the SBCA Men’s Football team. At last, the VPAA, along with the other administrators, officially declared the opening of the 2023 Sports Intramurals.

The first set of games for basketball and volleyball immediately commenced after the ceremony. According to the Student Executive Council (SEC) and Physical Education (PE) department, the following courses emerged as the victors for the first week of the women’s volleyball games: Information Technology, Entrepreneurship, Human Resources, Marketing and Financial Management, Communication and Media Studies, and Psychology and Education. For the men’s volleyball games, the winners were Information Technology, Entrepreneurship, Human Resources, Marketing and Financial Management, International Studies, Psychology and Education, and Legal Management. Meanwhile, winners for the men’s first-week basketball games were Psychology and Education, Information Technology, Accountancy and Entrepreneurship, Human Resources, Marketing and Financial Management.

The intramurals will commence every Friday and students are encouraged to support their teams. On behalf of THE BEDAN HERALD, we wish every program the best of luck in the upcoming games! As Atty.
