BEFORE the medals and the headlines, many Filipina athletes first had to overcome a quieter opponent, the voices that screamed that they didn’t belong in the sport at all. It starts with doubt, with being told that some sports were never meant for them.

ON March 15, the SBCA Junior and Senior Varsity Cheer Teams showcased their talents at the 56th WNCAA Cheerdance and Cheerleading competition, held at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium, Rizal Memorial Sports Complex in Manila.

FOSTERING camaraderie and community spirit within the Legal Management community, the Junior Bedan Law Circle (JBLC) launched its first-ever sportsfest titled “Lex Play: JBLC Sportsfest 2026” on Feb. 21 at the Fr. Baltazar Gymnasium. WITH a dominant showcase of skill, Alex Eala defeated Alina Charaeva of Russia at the Rizal Memorial Tennis Center in Manila, Philippines, last Jan. 26, kicking off her campaign at the 2026 Philippine Women’s Open WTA 125 tournament with a score of 6-1 and 6-2, marking this as her first victory in the Philippines.

WHEN asked what was behind her passion to become a full-time tennis player, Filipina athlete Alex Eala answered, “Being a professional is what I wanted to do”. That realization came after years of training, balancing academic work with games and tournaments from far places. This opened Eala’s eyes that she was more capable than what she thought.

FILIPINO esports remains alive and thriving as local PH teams continue their grind through October in anticipation of the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Mid Season Cup (MSC) esports World Cup, preparing for another season of international and regional tournaments such as the much anticipated M7 world championships coming this January 2026. And with the October qualifiers underway, the Philippines once again finds itself at the center of Southeast Asia’s most competitive esports scene.
