UNABLE to secure the team’s first win for the Women’s National Collegiate Athletics Association (WNCAA) Season 55, the SBCA Women’s Futsal team lost to the Philippine Women’s University (PWU) with a score of 0-9 last Sept. 22 held at the SBCA’s Fr Bellarmine Baltasar Gym.
The Red Lions entered the court with high-fighting spirits for their season's first game. Both teams were determined to score the first point while continuously defending and attempting to goal. After the intense exchange, the Patriots successfully scored the first point on the scoreboard. Despite not scoring the first goal, this did not hinder the Red Lions from consistently blocking their opponent's attacks while maintaining communication throughout the game. Halfway through the first 20-minute period, the game got more intense as both teams continuously passed the ball across the court with no one backing down. However, the first half of the game ended with 0-2 after the Patriots scored their second goal.
For the game’s second period, the Red Lions returned to the court without losing their momentum and keeping their eyes on victory. Throughout the game, the Red Lions had several attempts to score their first point, but their opponents’ strong defense made it unsuccessful. With 14 minutes left on the clock, the Patriots made another goal, making the crowd cheer for joy and the others with dismay. The Red Lions continued blocking PWU’s attempts but scored another four points. With less than 10 minutes left, the Red Lions’ goalkeeper blocked their opponent’s consecutive attempts to score another point with the help of their members’ defense. Despite their efforts, the Patriots scored another two successive points, ending the match with a 0-9 score in favor of PWU.
With the Red Lions’ first defeat for the season, THE BEDAN HERALD interviewed Glezyl Rose Sara (V-BSBA-MM) on what the team should improve for their upcoming games. She said, “Siguro samin kailangan talaga namin ng more on trainings kasi, because of our schedules, hindi kami nakakapagkaroon ng full training as a team.” The team also aims to improve their agility and stamina and return stronger in their next game against the University of Makati (UMak) on Sept. 29.
