THE Junior Bedan Engineering Society (JBES) held its General Assembly last Aug. 25 at the Manny Reyes Hall with the theme, "JBES KICK-START 2026: ONE SOCIETY, ONE VISION", bringing together officers and members to formally open the academic year with the introduction of new officers, a rebranded identity, and a preview of the programs planned for the months ahead.

The event began with opening remarks from the Dean of the School of Engineering and Technology (SET), Engr. Jerry V. Turingan, reaffirming the faculty's commitment to preparing students for the profession. "We are giving our best to educate you and impart our knowledge to you so that you can use this knowledge to build a better Philippines in the future.”

This program was followed by the transition of the new officers for Academic Year 2026-2027, along with an explanation of the organization's bylaws, and the unveiling of JBES' rebranded logo, shirt, and lanyard design, changes that mark a fresh chapter for the organization.

In an interview with THE BEDAN HERALD, newly appointed JBES President Chrije Casanova (II-BSIE) shared that the rebranding is more than a cosmetic update. "More than just a visual change, the rebranding represents our intention to move forward with a clearer direction and identity as an organization," he said.

A Sharper Focus on Practical Learning

According to Casanova, JBES' central goal this academic year is to become a more active and relevant platform for engineering students within the College. The organization intends to give students opportunities beyond the classroom by exposing them to real-world engineering applications, professional settings, and career-relevant skills.

"We want to provide opportunities that go beyond the classroom by exposing students to practical engineering applications, professional environments, and skills that they can carry into their future careers," he explained, highlighting that the organization also aims to strengthen its collaboration within the Engineering community.

To support this direction, JBES is working on a lineup of engineering-related training, workshops, seminars, and company visits designed to help students see how classroom concepts translate into actual industry practice. Casanova noted that these initiatives, paired with the new branding introduced at the General Assembly, reflect a shift in emphasis compared to previous years.

"Compared to last year, we hope to place greater emphasis on practical experiences and industry exposure while continuing the activities that help build a stronger Engineering community," he said.

Building a Lasting Foundation

Beyond the roster of upcoming activities, Casanova expressed hope that JBES' presence among Engineering students this year will be more meaningful and impactful. 

Casanova hopes that the organization will stay true to its purpose, remain responsive to student needs, and stay open to collaboration throughout the year.
