By Juan Miguel Diaz and Gabrielle Calangi |  June 1, 2024

BIDA sa Summer, Bida sa Sports,”- the week-long Sports Intramurals 2024 heats the Bedan Community as it opened last May 20 at the SBCA Sports Complex organized by the Physical Education Department and ended on the 24th with Megacrew Competition and players’ recognition during the three-day ball games consisting of women and men’s volleyball, and men’s basketball.

Let the Games Begin!

The opening ceremony was held last May 20 wherein Prof. Roma Wynn Sedo, Dean for Student Affairs, emphasized how this year’s Intramurals captures the spirit of excellence and enthusiasm. “It is a celebration of our passion for sports, our commitment to physical fitness, and dedication to teamwork and sportsmanship,” Dean Sedo said. She encouraged the students to embody the Benedictine Hallmarks as the intramurals began. “Let us uphold the hallmark of discipline, demonstrating self-control and dedication in our training and performance,” she added.

Just like in any sporting event, a torch-lighting ceremony was held to signal the start of the games. SBCA Men’s Basketball Team Captain, Luis Gabriel F. Santos (IV-BSBA-MM), and SBCA Women’s Volleyball Team Captain Keisha Mhaye D. Dimatatac (II-BAIS-TOURISM) led this year’s lighting of the torch. “The torch represents peace, friendship, hope, and understanding among the participating degree programs and the respective teams,” Marciana Valle (II-BSBA-MM) said as she explained the meaning of the lighting of the torch. Despite the competitiveness of the environment, an Oath of Sportsmanship was held to ensure the proper exercise of sportsmanship and camaraderie among the students, led by John Gabriel T. Santos (IV-BACMS), Team Captain of SBCA Men’s Volleyball.

The opening ceremony ended with a flash fashion runway by Silakbo, the arts and events organization of the Tertiary Schools, in collaboration with Himig Bedista and Bedanz. The fashion show showcased various thrift and upcycled clothes by students as they proudly wore them and strutted the runway.
