Tertiary Schools are Now PAASCU Reaccredited!

By Isabel Daenah Manzanero | July 1, 2024

AFTER the formal resurvey visit to San Beda College Alabang (SBCA) by the Philippine Accrediting Association of Schools, Colleges, and Universities (PAASCU) on April 4 and 5, the results were finally released last June 5.

The accreditation is a form of voluntary self-governance, with accreditors from various institutions examining and evaluating the quality of education and services provided. The accreditors conduct visits by interviewing school members and examining school documents and exhibits.

Fr. Gerardo Ma. De Villa, OSB, SBCA Rector President, released ‘General Memorandum No. 010-2023-2024,’ sharing the outstanding news with the Bedan community.

Five programs are granted reaccreditation status for five years after the initial three-year accreditation status for demonstrating overall excellence in the tertiary schools’ delivery of programs and services. These programs are Bachelor of Arts in International Studies (majoring in Tourism), BA in Psychology, Bachelor of Science in Entrepreneurship, BS in Business Management, and BS in Information Technology.

While seven programs have passed their preliminary visits and may submit for level 1 accreditation, they include BA in Communication and Media Studies, BA in International Studies (majoring in Asia Pacific Studies and Philippine Government and External Relations), BS in Psychology, BS in Accounting Information Systems, BS in Legal Management, BS in Accountancy, and BS in Elementary and Secondary Education.

Atty. Juan Ruffo D. Chong, the Dean of the School of Business, Accountancy, and Management (SBAM), expressed his happiness as a result of the community’s collaborative effort. “I am also very happy because everybody cooperated, and I think the results are just the fruits of our collaborative endeavor,” Atty. Chong said. He further emphasized the role of stakeholders, students, administrators, faculty members, non-teaching personnel, and parents in obtaining favorable results.

Gratitude and relief were the emotions that took over Dr. Rosario Mielmia C. Aquino, Dean of the School of Arts, Sciences, and Education (SASE). She is thankful to everyone who cooperated and led the way and felt relieved from all the work, sleepless nights, and stress brought on by the whole affair.

Dr. Aquino recognized the role of the Institutional Advancement Office, which was the main coordinator directly communicating with PAASCU. Dean Aquino also emphasized everyone’s role, “The outputs came from everybody because accreditation is not only about academics.”

The administrators have yet to receive a copy of PAASCU's recommendation as a basis for improvements to further the excellence of the Tertiary Schools.
