There’s a New Queen in COD Town

By Jan Allen Chavez I December 13 , 2021

AFTER dominating the second season of the Call of Duty Mobile (CODM): Valkyrie Series, Tyrant LXIX has been dubbed as the best all-female CODM in Southeast Asia (SEA). The CODM: Valkyrie Series is an all-female esports tournament operated by the Esports League in SEA or ESL SEA. The latest season of the tournament was held last Nov. 3 and concluded on the 18th of the same month.

Eight of the best female teams competed for the lion’s share of the $3,000 (Php 150,000) prize pool. Tyrant LXIX, PDR Bees, Aim Genesis, and Nifty Ultra AJW are the qualifying teams from the Philippines (PH) whilst Lugiami, Lithara Artemis, Sad Valkyrie, and Klasiko Hyenas are representative of Malaysia and Singapore (MYSG).

The Tyrants’ Reprisal

LXIX finished strong, having only two map losses in the entire tournament, leaving them with a final record of 29-2. Their most notable is their face-off with Lugiami, whom they lost to in the previous Valkyrie Series. The Singaporean squad was also last year’s defending champion. LXIX was able to settle the score from their chief rival, thrashing them with a score of 3-0 in Hardpoint at Standoff, Search and Destroy at Raid and Domination at Firing Range. Tyrant “Cyka” was crowned as the MVP of that match. They went on to face the fellow Filipino Squad, Nifty Ultra AJW, whom they sank to the lower brackets. In their final display of prowess, the female squad was able to prove to the SEA CODM community why they deserve to be the queens of Call of Duty: Mobile.  LXIX proved themselves that they are a force to be reckoned with, often dominating their opponents with a clean record of 3-0.

The Frontwoman

The female roster of Tyrant LXIX is composed of Daena “Consta” Constantino, Venice Daphnie “Venice” Mea, Kersey Andrea “Cyka” Batua, Banna Marie “Senpax” Berio, Yanina “Mia” Suarez, Dannah Angeline “Aphaea” Castañeda, and Raenan Isabel “Yakee” Villa who’s also the team captain. Villa is a 4th Year BACMS Student from SBCA and has been the team captain of LXIX for almost two years.

In an interview with THE BEDAN HERALD, Villa said that one of the problems that their team faced is the slow internet speed, which is a common obstacle in the Philippine setting. In one of their battles, she stated that they had a close fight due to the network problem; However, because of their strong focus and determination to win, they were able to overcome the problem at hand. “Sobrang dami bumilib that time sa mga nanood kasi nag lag na nga kami na [kapag] comeback pa rin [kami],” she said.

Villa left a message for the Bedan community who are looking to pursue their esports career. She said to go for it despite what people are telling you. “Kung diyan ka masaya and kung alam mo na magbe-benefit ka din diyan, ituloy mo lang, prove them wrong,” she added. She also shared her experience regarding her esports career wherein some people belittle her passion for gaming. “Pero ngayon, tuwing mananalo kami sa major tournaments, todo naman ang pag congratulate nila sakin,” she shared. Ending the interview, she also noted that a game won’t last forever and that her career might stop at any moment. So, her advice as a gamer is to always be ready and have a backup plan.
