AFTER five years, THE BEDAN HERALD makes a comeback in competitive journalism at the recently concluded 15th National Campus Media Conference (NCMC). The competition was held at the Angels Hills Tagaytay Retreat and Formation Center in Tagaytay City, Cavite, from Sept. 18 to 20.
TBH exhibited its excellence in campus journalism among 877 delegates from 62 educational institutions in the Philippines' primary, secondary, and tertiary divisions.
Jazella Marquez (I-BSLM), Research and Circulation Staff, Jian Ruga (IV-BACMS), Features Editor, and Julianne Sembrano (IV-BSNEd), Managing Editor, secured the seventh spot in Pambansang Pautakan Pampahayagan, a quiz bee on general information and history of Journalism. Meanwhile, Juan Miguel Diaz (III-BSLM), Associate Editor, clinched 10th place for English News Story Writing, competing with more than 50 tertiary school representatives.
TBH also competed in other individual categories such as Editorial Writing with Em Endo (IV-BACMS), Editor-in-Chief, as its delegate, Editorial Cartooning with Nathaniel Manaog (IV-BACMS), Chief Cartoonist, and Liamm Eridani (III-BSBA-MM), Circulations Manager, for Backpack Journalism, a combination of Photojournalism, Layout, and Feature Writing.
For the group category, TBH participated in Digital Publishing with Diaz as their News Writer, Ruga as their Science and Technology Writer, Endo as their Features Writer, Eridani as their Layout Artist, and Dan Abainza (II-BSLM), Digital Content Manager, as their Photojournalist. They also fiercely competed in the i-DOKUMENTO with Diaz as the Director, Endo as the Scriptwriter, Abainza as Videographer and Editor, and Marquez as Anchor.
Prof. Gino Antonio Rivera III, Communication and Media Studies department chair, coached this year’s delegates.
The School Press Advisers' Movement, Incorporated (SPAM, Inc.) held this year's conference in collaboration with De La Salle Lipa (DLSL), the International Society of Administrators and Researchers (ISTAR), and the National Federation of Campus Journalists (NFCJ).
With the theme "Championing Accountability Journalism for a Positive Societal Impact through eXpanding and Venturing the Digital Horizon" corresponds to SPAM Inc.'s advocacy and DLSU-Lipa's goal of a lively cultivation of culture and diversity in campus media.
During the closing ceremony, SPAM announced that National University Clark will host the 2025 NCMC. It also shared the host for the following years, naming Romblon and Cebu for 2026 and 2027, respectively.
