In a post on the official Facebook page of San Beda College Alabang (SBCA), it revealed in one of its posts the soon-to-be operational Material Recovery Facility (MRF).
The post explained that the purpose of the state-of-the-art recovery facility is to manage biodegradable and non-biodegradable materials collected on campus.
In an interview with The Bedan Herald, Victor Padilla, one of the foremen for painting, briefly explained that the facility itself was finished and that the only thing that is missing is “’Yung retouch ng flooring mga dinadagdag namin. Tapos ‘yung mga kulang-kulang pa na mga dumi-dumi, nililinis na lang namin," he said.
Padilla also mentioned that the facility will be used primarily by the administrators of SBCA.
As explained by the foreman, the facility has three areas with different purposes. First, there should be a stock room for objects or materials deemed reusable, such as computers, air conditioners, and appliances. "Basta sa loob niya mga pwede pang gamitin, mga pwede pang mapakinabangan diyan nila ilalagay sa loob,” the foreman added. The second place is to store biodegradable and non-biodegradable materials in proper containers. The last area is a part of the facility that will recycle accumulated materials on campus.
Even as the summer period continues, the school works tirelessly to improve its facilities and the construction of various projects for the betterment of the campus, which encapsulates one of the core values of the Bedan community: stewardship.
With the newly built MRF, San Beda fulfills its part of Pope Francis' encouragement of "Laudato Si," or Praised to be in Latin, the second encyclical of the Pope. It addresses how costly actions can gradually impact the environment over a span of time. The newly built facility is completed and shall be ready by the start of the school year 2024–2025.
