WITH a score of 1-7, the SBCA Women’s Futsal team lost to the University of Asia & Pacific (UA&P) during their game last Oct. 13 at the SBCA's Fr. Bellarmine Baltasar Gym. The Red Lioness are still winless in their campaign trail for this year's Women’s National Collegiate Athletics Association (WNCAA) season.
Throughout the first half of the game, it was an intense back-and-forth between the two teams, but eventually, SBCA's defense began to crumble after the first goal from the UA&P, forcing the SBCA to call for a timeout to halt the momentum and the call for substitutions.
Before starting the second half of the game, the Red Lions huddled with their coach to exchange words and instructions. Glezyl Sara (V-BSBA-MM) scored SBCA's first goal after all their attempts and defense.
Unfortunately, because UA&P was aggressive on the side of SBCA, they continued scoring goals, which resulted in a score of 7:1 in the second half of the match. Despite this significant lead, the Red Lions maintained a strong effort and persevered until the referee's final whistle.
In the game's aftermath, THE BEDAN HERALD got an interview with the team’s goalkeeper, Bea Talayaratne (II-BAIS). She commented on her performance in the game and the necessary improvements and preparation for the next series of games. "Another one rin that we really need to improve on is our offense; kung paano i-oorchestrate yung attacks para kahit ma-scorean kami, we can score back," she added.
The Red Lions have another chance to secure the team’s first win of the season in their next game on Oct. 20 against Miriam College, to be held on SBCA.
