BURNING with pride and the spirit of camaraderie, the employees and teaching and non-teaching personnel were brought together for Rector’s Cup 2025. Last July 10, the annual Cup had its Finals Championship held at the Fr. Bellarmine Baltasar Gymnasium and Sports Complex 2. Across basketball and volleyball events, every serve, sprint, and shot carried the legacy of sportsmanship and togetherness.
The tournament officially kicked off last June 25 with its grand opening at the Fr. Baltasar Gymnasium, marking the beginning of the games.
After two weeks of intense elimination round, on July 10, the battle for third took place before the championship. In basketball, the Pink team (Integrated Basic Education Department faculty) edged out the Yellow team (Security and Services staff). In men’s volleyball, the Blue team (Agency personnel staff) beat the Green team (Integrated Basic Education Department faculty), while in women’s volleyball, the Violet team (Security and Services staff) swept past the Pink team (Integrated Basic Education Department faculty).
All games were tightly contested but the winners truly showed their determination to win against their opponents.
Sir Michael Jambalos, President of the SBCA Employee Association and Committee Head of the event, shared that the tournament began in 1998 and was originally called the Fr. Bellarmine Cup but was later renamed the Rector’s Cup to honor the different rectors of the school. “The primary purpose is camaraderie, health and fitness of all employees,” he said.
The tournament started with teaching staff and was later expanded to include other members of the school community, such as agency and security personnel.
Services Falls to Agency
The Men’s Basketball Championship finals between Purple (Security and Services staff) and Red (Agency personnel staff) was a tight and physical game. The Purple team led from the first to the second quarter, keeping a 1 to 7-point advantage. Both teams tied the score multiple times, but the Purple team stayed slightly ahead at halftime, 44–42.
In the third quarter, the Red team started to take control, capitalizing on fast breaks and forced turnovers. The lead of the Red team continued to dominate until the fourth, extending their lead and limiting Purple team’s scoring opportunities.
The game ended with a final score of 77–60 in favor of the Red team. A strong second-half showing made the Agency team the Champions for Men’s Basketball.
Higher-Ed and Agency spike their way to the top
The Red team (Agency Personnel staff) swept the Women’s Volleyball championship with 3-0 over the Green team (Integrated Basic Education Department faculty staff). From the first to the third set, the Red team controlled their pace and strategies. The team played consistently until the end of the third set, showing their focus and teamwork.
In the Men’s Volleyball Championship, the Red team (Higher Education Department) also came out strong with a 3-0 finish against the Pink team (Integrated Basic Education Department faculty staff). They maintained their control and game tactics and did not allow a single set to slip.
Both teams showed determination and composure, finishing their matches quickly and confidently to secure their championship titles.
All tournament games concluded with an awarding ceremony at the Sports Complex 2.
