Overcoming a Season-ending Loss

THE San Beda College Alabang (SBCA) Men’s Basketball team fell short in securing victory on their home court against the Lyceum of the Philippines University - Batangas (LPUB), scoring 76-83, last June 17.

As both teams strive for dominance, the first quarter ended with a 13-17 score in favor of LPUB. The opposing team managed to widen the gap to 17 points by the end of the second quarter, scoring 27-44. Despite this, the Red Lions showcased camaraderie, extending a helping hand to their opponents after falls.

LPUB scored the first basket in the third quarter as the Red Lions struggled to defend their home court due to missed shots and fouls. They finished the third quarter with a score of 53-69. Nonetheless, they continued to persist despite the opposing team’s defenses.

The SBCA Pep Band’s drums and the “Defense!” chants echoed throughout the court amid the fourth quarter, which boosted the team’s adrenaline. The Red Lions rapidly climbed up the scoreboard, nearly closing the gap with consistent turnovers and a mix of two and three-pointers, but a final free throw from the LPUB sealed their defeat.

Despite losing in their final game of the season, they showcased solidarity and determination through their unwavering support for one another. Their collective efforts to overcome challenges leave a strong foundation for the next season.

In an interview with THE BEDAN HERALD, Luis Gabriel Santos (IV-BSBA-MM), the team captain in his final game in College, stated, “Salamat sa Beda komunidad [dahil] maraming nanood. Salamat din sa teammates ko—all out silang lahat—kaya naman pala nila lumaban ng ganyan kahit malalaki, and good luck sa kanila sa next season. Thank you sa lahat.”
