MarkCon 2024: Enlightening Marketistas towards Success

By Liamm Eridani | May 5, 2024

THE Junior Bedan Marketing Association (JBMA) hosted its annual Marketing Congress entitled, “Golden Glow: Marketing Visionaries” at the St. Maur Auditorium last April 30. The event welcomed Bedan marketing students from various levels and Junior Bedan Executives (JUBEX) representatives from FEU Alabang.

After an introduction from the hosts Jules Mykel Reyes (III-BSBA-MM) and Katrina Vicente (III-BSBA-MM), Dr. Emmanuel Evangelista, the Program Chair of the Business Administration, and Entrepreneurship department, gave his opening remarks regarding the importance of innovation and challenging the status quo. “They (marketing visionaries) are the trailblazers who challenge the status quo, the pioneers who envision the future, and the thought leaders who inspire us to think bigger,” the Program Chair said. He further expressed that the conference exceeds beyond learning –  it’s equally about forging meaningful connections, and he encouraged the students to network and collaborate.

Following the opening remarks, the Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Andres Ignacio C. San Mateo, DBA, also gave a brief speech emphasizing the importance of events such as MarkCon and congratulating JBMA for organizing it. Subsequently, Abigail Darlene S. Mitra, the president of JUBEX from FEU Alabang, was called in front to share her expectations for MarkCon 2024. She expressed her excitement about learning something valuable to benefit her and her fellow schoolmates’ careers and endeavors.

The sole speaker of the event, Kian Kazemi, shared his experiences, challenges, and insights throughout his journey as a business owner. Kazemi was a former Pinoy Big Brother contestant and now owns various businesses such as “Persian Grill” and “Izakaya Hamachi.” When asked about his advice on what students can do to gain confidence, he stated that practicing one's communication skills such as talking to random strangers inside the campus is a great way to start. He also expressed that he cannot build businesses without efficient communication skills. “I can’t open a restaurant by myself if I don’t know how to communicate with the team. I can’t build a building if I can’t communicate my thoughts with the architect and the engineer,Kazemi said.

After the talk, the search for Mr. and Ms. MarkCon 2024 commenced as five best-dressed boys and girls from JBMA officers and students were chosen to be the nominees for the title. Then, they were asked to show off their best poses and answer questions from the segment hosts, Marciana Rose Valle (II-BSBA-MM) and Ernest Samson (II-BSBA-MM). After a meticulous evaluation, John Rovie Abrea (II-BSBA-MM) and Bernadette Villaluz (I-BSBA-MM) were named as Mr. and Ms. MarkCon 2024.

The event concluded with the closing remarks from the incumbent JBMA President, Mari Rico (IV-BSBA-MM), as she bid farewell to her last MarkCon event as a Bedan student. “I am filled with pride to have been part of such a dynamic and visionary community. Together, we have not only explored the frontiers of marketing but have also forged lasting connections and friendships that will endure beyond these halls,” Rico said.
