ALEXANDRA Anadon (IV-BSBA-MM), former president of the Student Executive Council (SEC), encouraged members of the Junior Bedan Marketing Association (JBMA) during the annual Congress to face life obstacles as a learning experience.
Speaking before the JBMA Congress with the theme, “MarkCon 2023 Resurgence: Stronger than the Setbacks,” Anadon said her small businesses: Crazy Poppers and Crazy Grind Coffee suffered setbacks but such did not stop her from bouncing back. Restarting was not a problem. “Iyak today, bangon tomorrow… As long as naniniwala kayo sa sarili niyo and alam niyo kaya niyo, everything will make sense in the end,” she shared.
Audrey Sadio (IV-BSBA-MM), Vice President for Public Relations and Communication, in her opening remarks, said the event’s theme, “MarkCon 2023 Resurgence: Stronger than the Setbacks,” encourages students to embrace the power of resurgence despite failure.
“...[By] joining us together here in resurgence, we can transform these setbacks into possibilities and opportunities for growth,” she said. The event was hosted by Sophia Samson (IV-BSBA-MM) and Jules Mykel Reyes (II-BSBA-MM) at the Manny Reyes Hall last April, 28, 2023.
Charmaine Sales, founder of Passion Lab and co-owner of Coffee x Konvos, urged marketers to always look for solutions, practice charity by “giving back to the community we are in and we love,” and create compelling content to sell.
Sales also hoped that students building their own businesses should stand for something more meaningful than just selling to the public. She believed that along with this, they also need to learn to observe and create content relatable to the public.
In his closing remarks, Dane Oquias (IV-BSBA-MM), the former SEC External Vice President and 4th Year Level Representative, expressed confidence that Bedans will strive amid setbacks. He thanked with gratitude the speakers and organization partners: Beda.Comm, The Bedan Herald, and Bedanz. Oquias also called on fellow Bedan marketers to benefit from the event as an opportunity to “build themselves even higher, both today as students and tomorrow as professionals.”
THE BEDAN HERALD interviewed Christer Allyza Tibon (I-BSBA-MM) on his newfound learnings from the congress. He was mainly struck by Anadon’s talk, which he interpreted as seeing the low points as opportunities to grow your business into something better than it was before. “Don’t be afraid to ask for help or advice from those who have been successful in the industry. Most importantly, stay focused and committed to your vision.” Tibon reiterated that building a business takes time and effort, but with dedication and perseverance, anyone can achieve their goals.
