“YOU may or may not have chosen this course, but it chose you,” said Prof. Carlo Hebron, guest speaker, to the Junior Bedan Marketing Association (JBMA) at their General Assembly last Oct.11 at the Rosendo Herrera Hall. The JBMA set the stage for their freshmen's exciting academic year ahead. The event was themed as a costume party where marketing students wore their best outfits impersonating their favorite movie icons.
In his opening remarks, Atty. Juan Ruffo D. Chong, the Dean of the School of Business, Accountancy, and Management (SBAM), expressed the importance of exceeding expectations to achieve excellence. “There is always an expectation that is set. You start to become excellent not when you meet those expectations, but when you exceed those expectations,” the Dean said. He mentioned that a successful General Assembly should not only be fun but must also be meaningful, as it sets the tone for the whole year.
Then, Dr. Andres Ignacio San Mateo, Jr., Vice President of Academic Affairs, delivered a message that inspired the freshmen students to make the most of their program. He encouraged the students to learn from their experiences, inside and outside the classroom, and to find value in every endeavor. “In the end, think of how you can make a difference in the lives of people,” he said.
The assembly featured Prof. Hebron, an alumnus and assistant sales manager at Gardenia, who debunked the myths surrounding the marketing program and recounted the challenges he faced as a student while pursuing a degree in marketing at SBCA.
Prof. Hebron advised the students to take full advantage of their time at school with every program it offers. He encourages them to maximize their time and surround themselves with good company. “While you’re here, break barriers, break down walls, break generational stereotypes.”
In an interview with THE BEDAN HERALD, JBMA President Katrina Vicente (IV-BSBA-MM) expressed her pride in the success of the General Assembly. She praised her team for executing the event flawlessly despite last-minute changes and reaffirmed JBMA's commitment to providing more exciting activities throughout the year. “In my four years with JBMA, I honestly believe that this was the best GA so far,” she said.
Vicente shared her visions of what JBMA has planned for the upcoming school year. “It will definitely be something to look forward to as students will be able to showcase their creativity and businesses not just to the marketing department but the whole college community.” She hinted at the possibility of insightful talks and collaborations with other schools to expand connections within the marketing field.
