Blue-collar working men rattle their decorated shoeboxes, children carol, and the air smells of holiday ham or whatever it is your family has cooking. Capitalism is at an all-time high, with people rushing around with shopping bags, getting trampled in pursuit of that perfect holiday moment. But not everyone gets to chase it. With the celebration of National Press Freedom Day, student publications remain subjected to oppression, censorship, budget cuts, intimidation, and harassment and face an asymmetrical war to preserve campus press freedom. With an outdated law in place, student journalists continue to urge the government to ratify a new law that guarantees campus press freedom and holds accountable those who infringe on these rights.
