THIS year’s BTN 9 Dreamers, short for "Be The Next: 9 Dreamers"—a talent discovery reality competition in the P-pop industry—showcased the passion and commitment of its candidates, all under the guidance of experienced mentors—such as EXO’s Chen, MOMOLAND’s Hyebin, and HORI7ON’s Vinci—each determined to seize the one chance that could transform their dreams into reality. Among them, Wave Legaspi stood out. After nearly setting aside his dream following graduation and entering the workforce, fate gave him a second chance—and he seized it.
A Dual Path of Passion and Purpose
Wave’s passion for dance began in childhood, when his mother, a teacher, would bring him to her school and introduce him to dancing through her students. What started as a fun activity became a passion for performance. He shared that his passion for dancing never faded. Whenever opportunities to perform arose, he took them, starting in elementary, continuing through high school and senior high, and now in college. His love for performing extended beyond dance as he was also part of a choir during high school. Joining BEDANZ was a huge leap towards realizing his potential as an idol, as it provided him with the platform to perform at venues such as Sayaw Hataw and the SMX Convention Center. It also prepared him for the competitive world of BTN 9 Dreamers, where the skills, discipline, and opportunities he gained further honed him into the performer that he is today.
“At first, being a lawyer was really my dream ” Wave recalled that his first ambition had been to become a lawyer—a dream he mentioned to his parents at the age of five that led him to pursue legal management—while simultaneously honing his artistic side through dancing. Throughout his academic journey, he earned honors and assumed leadership roles in school organizations and he managed to balance law classes with auditions. Such a feat prepared him to put his academic pursuits aside when the opportunity for an idol career came along and that enabled him to embrace his passion without hesitation. Although he once saw the legal profession as a stable, traditional path, he now devotes his energy to the stage, and he envisions a future where he might even merge both worlds into a unique identity as an “attorney-idol.”
The Stage
"But I went through all of it. And finally that I'm here. It's really like living the dream." For Wave, the competition marks the culmination of three years of auditions and relentless practice. His journey from local dance performances to the national stage was built up through the support of his BEDANZ family and the persistent pursuit of his idol dream. Balancing his academic achievements with the creative spark within him, he focused on transforming every moment on stage into an opportunity for growth and self-expression.
Wave Legaspi employed his determination to pursue his goals, honing his skills on the BTN 9 Dreamers platform and seeking new opportunities. His life proves that determination begets success, and experience turns possibility into achievement, promising a future for those willing to pursue their dreams.
