THE sheer passion for dance not only extends through the bodily movements of a single person; it has the power to transcend language and culture that binds communities together through a unique way of expression. Last April 13, The Bedanz Dance Troupe Alabang (BDTA) held their annual dance competition, Sayaw Hataw Vol. XVI at the Alabang Town Center.
Hosted by Jesse Gotangco of Team Package Makers and Director of Manila Soul, the competition brought out the best in the participating dance crews and performers, with an array of dynamic routines that were sure to capture the attention of everyone in attendance.
Sayaw Hataw XVI introduced the competition to esteemed personalities of the dance community to judge the event, including Mavy Marquez, Kenneth Abela, and Ferdz Lopez from UPEEPZ. With their expertise, the event ensured that fair judgment was given to everyone who participated. In addition to their annual event, guest performances by Urban Lifestyle and KMI further amplify the entertainment factor.
Featuring an impressive lineup of dancers, every team had their distinct flair to bring to the stage. For the high school division, the Queen Anne School of Santa Rosa Laguna’s Maiestas was able to secure the top position with a total score of 91.33. and SVNHS D’squad from Signal Village National High School got second place with 88.62 as their score. Freestyle battles added an extra dose of excitement to the event, in which dancers brought out their spontaneity and busted out their creative moves on the dancefloor. In the high school division, the Lasallian Patriots Dance Company of De La Salle University emerged as the champions, while the STI College Las Piñas’ CAT LOVERS claimed the title in the college division.
