Unleash Your Potential: SBCA Club Guide

By Ian Jonas Ruga | August 8, 2024

THE life of a Bedan college student, when focused solely on academic work, can be a life plagued with monotony. Going to school daily, finishing schoolwork, and talking to the same people might get old quickly. For this reason, to make college life interesting for Bedans, students are bestowed upon the privilege to participate in any of the existing organizations on campus. From performing arts to campus journalism, the San Beda College Alabang (SBCA) ‘org-life’ is very much alive and exists to satisfy any Bedan’s craving for expressive and creative desire.

In an effort to attract new potential members, various organizations under the tertiary level were given the platform to showcase themselves during The Sining sa Silid: Club Recruitment 2024 event held last Aug. 1. In case you missed it, here’s the information we collected from each organization during the event:

Science, Math, or Debate

If scientific marvels and mathematical analysis entice you, joining Eureka: the official Math and Science organization of SBCA, might provide you that fix. Known for enhancing student’s mathematical and scientific skills, the club also engages in outreach projects beyond academics.

Perhaps you’d like to learn the art of debating and public speaking. If so, look no further than the San Beda Alabang Debate Society (SBADS). A club known for participating in significant debate events and interschool training sessions, thrives in enhancing students’ critical thinking and argumentative skills.

Embrace Service or Faith

Others wish to immerse themselves in the beauty of performance arts. Some, however, are more committed to humanitarian service and leadership development. If you find yourself leaning more towards the latter category, joining the SBCA Rotaract Club will scratch your altruistic itch as the organization is known for building opportunities for students to help and serve the community.

Students interested in participating in Catholic worship and fostering spiritual awareness within the Bedan community, have the opportunity to join the Bedan Liturgical Ministries. With the organization’s mission of supporting Catholic values and holistic formation, members of this club will be in top spiritual shape.

Fair Elections Committee

During student council elections, the need for a fair and transparent electoral process is indispensable. This is where the Bedan Electoral Committee steps in. Members of this organization are dedicated to upholding values of integrity and accountability to ensure that campus democracy stays vibrant and intact. Thus, joining this organization would be a great opportunity if you’re passionate about maintaining well-organized elections.

Campus Arts Organizations

If singing or playing instruments is your forte but lack a place to perform, you’re in luck. Consider joining the official music organization of SBCA, Himig Bedista. The organization will not only provide you with performance opportunities but workshops for both vocal and instrumental training.

If dancing is your passion, joining the Bedanz Dance Troupe-Alabang (BDTA) is a no-brainer as the organization has been dancing and moving to the hearts of Bedans for almost 30 years. If that’s not convincing enough, the club has numerous achievements under its belt, cementing its reputation as the de facto dance club to join on campus.

Perhaps you can sing and dance but also want to explore acting, the performing arts and theater organization of SBCA, Teatro Bedista, has you covered. Now celebrating its 10th year, the club immerses its members in theater arts whether it be through workshops or performances.

If arts, fashion, and culture pique your interest, joining Silakbo might fulfill that artistic desire. As one of the more versatile organizations on campus, the club is known for breeding creativity and cultural appreciation. Recent achievements of the Silakbo include various event competitions such as the Flash Fashion and Halloween costume contests.

Capturing moments and visual storytelling is what Pulagrafia is all about. As SBCA’s official photography and film club, the club allows its members to explore visual arts through photography and film. In this club, creativity shines through the lens.

Campus News Team

And then there’s THE BEDAN HERALD. As SBCA’s official student publication, this organization strives to be a reliable source for the latest news, both on and off campus. Now in its 30th year, the publication is committed to sharing stories that matter and keeping the campus community informed. If you have a passion for storytelling and a desire to keep students informed, consider joining the publication.
