The First Hunt For Victory

By Ma. Andrea Jermaine Del Mar  |  Febuary 08, 2023

THE San Beda College Alabang (SBCA) Women’s Volleyball Team triumphed against the University of Makati (UMak) last Feb. 5 at St. Scholastica’s College (SSC) for the Women’s National Collegiate Athletic Association (WNCAA) Season 53. The volleyball match was livestreamed via SMART Sports’ Facebook page.

SBCA set the mood as they won the first point during the first set of the game. The scores between the two teams were often neck and neck as the score tied 16-16 before the livestream was interrupted. SBCA won the first set with a score of 26-24 against UMak.

In the succeeding set, UMak gained the first point. But, SBCA was on a roll and had a six-point lead, 9-3, with Sophia Dacanay (I-BSP) serving the ball. Both teams executed few service errors, but Keisha Dimatatac (I-BAIS) of SBCA finished the second set with 25-13.

However, during the third set, SBCA lost the upper hand and requested a time-out after falling four points behind UMak, 16-20. UMak reigned the third set with a seven-point lead, 25-18. Kristine Garcia from UMak showed a powerful spike as she ended the third set.

The opposing team displayed strong skills, but SBCA executed impeccable blocks. A timeout was held with SBCA having a six-point lead, 14-8. Afterward, the game didn’t immediately resume as a player from the opposing team shared a concern with the referee. Regardless, SBCA marked their territory as they won the fourth set, winning the whole game and bringing home SBCA’s first win. Their next match will be held on Feb. 12 against the University of Asia and the Pacific (UA&P) at SSC.
