THE BEDAN HERALD held its annual general assembly last Aug. 15 at the Fr. Baltazar Cruz Hall, St. Bede Building. With the goal to amplify voices in this academic year, TBH staffers gathered to introduce goals, systems, and processes that would guide the publication.
Prior to the assembly, a Thanksgiving Mass was presided by Rev. Fr. Ephraem B. Molina, OSB at the College building chapel. The mass served as a way for the publication to express gratitude for the year that has passed and seek guidance for the new volume ahead.
During the event proper, Juan Miguel Diaz (IV-BSLM), the Editor-in-Chief, gave his welcoming message to the members and his acknowledgement to everyone who attended.
Diaz also introduced, “AMPLIFY 31,” which will serve as the theme of the publication for this year. According to the Editor-in-Chief, this theme shall serve as the direction of the publication for this year as it serves as a voice for students whose stories and experiences are not given the chance to be heard. “Our aim is to amplify every student's story and experiences as a day-to-day student,” he stated.
Prof. Vane Ignacio, the new Publication Adviser of TBH, gave an inspirational message. She spoke about the obstacles and mistakes they may face, which she said can be overcome as long as they have the passion that still ignites which brought them to the organization.
“You may encounter a number of hindrances along the way. All of this will weigh you down, but always go back to the reason why you're here,” she expressed.
After her message, the orientation of the editorial processes and policies of the publication started, led by Isabel Daenah Manzanero (IV-BSLM), the Associate Editor. Manzanero discussed a brand new system for the staffers and a fresh content production policy.
The event concluded with the section editors meeting with their staffers, orienting them through their respective sections' circulations and writing guidelines, and aiding them to become more efficient and better suited campus journalists.
Sophia Rae Cruzado (IV-BSLM), the Managing Editor, shared her sentiments and expectations for this volume. “The Bedan Herald will not only preserve the legacy of past volumes but also push forward with a new version, focusing on mastery of skills and bringing back the traditions such as printed newspapers, ” she emphasized.
