MOVING to the final stages before graduation, the Student Internship Program (SIP) spearheaded by Prof. Maria Adrianna Quioyo, SIP coordinator, kicked off a seminar last Oct. 19 at Manny Reyes Hall, orienting interns and fourth-year students of the tertiary school regarding the Student Internship Program (SIP). Before the seminar, a holy mass was also celebrated in the St. Benedict chapel, presided over by Fr. Gerardo Ma. De Villa, OSB, SBCA Rector President.
In an introduction to the collaboration of SIP, Alumni Affairs Office, and Counseling and Career Services (CCDS), Prof. Carl Dela Cruz, head of CCDS, emphasized that the internship program focuses on career enrichment. He believes that by this time, students will have a more straightforward professional path.
The CCDS head also shared the expected programs, such as career counseling, career learning, and employment assistance programs, which would help incoming interns enter job fairs, process National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) applications, write resumes, and conduct job interview simulations.
Also, regarding all matters involving career counseling, Prof. Dela Cruz urged students to seek help when needed. “If you need more guidance [or] assistance in your career decision-making, our guidance counselors are ready to help you all the time,” he advised the students. To conclude, Prof. Dela Cruz encouraged Bedans to participate in job fairs to help build stronger relationships with various industry partners.
“We want to strengthen the linkages that we have among companies and businesses owned by Bedans,” Prof. Elaine Aclan, Coordinator from the Alumni Affairs Office, said in her talk. She said that they want these companies to give priority to Bedan interns and eventually include them in their companies' hiring process. Aclan also hopes for future Bedan professionals to return the favor and give back to the alma mater through opportunities or by sharing knowledge and experience.
Coming after the discussion on Career Pathing, led by Atty. Elcid Salcedo, SBCA School of Law alumni and licensed broker, also talked about three crucial points when an employee engages in an activity, “If you will commit an activity, the activity should be legally tenable, it should be morally acceptable and intellectually satisfying.” He concluded his talk by stating that life is not fair regardless of your course or profession, but you need to move forward.
Atty. Juan Ruffo D. Chong, the Dean of the School of Business, Accountancy, and Management (SBAM), imparted his wisdom on the various laws and responsible actions to protect future interns from potential danger. In his talk, he urged students to exercise their discernment or the ability to judge well in a scenario before applying the laws available.
To end the seminar, former SIP coordinator Prof. Rozenar Del Monico tackled additional information regarding the internship process, such as the steps in the application process, SIP requirements, and the required number of internship hours.
Further and important details about the internship shall be posted on SBCA’s online pages, or one may head directly to the CCDS for further assistance.
