THE Student Internship Office, under the leadership of Prof. Maria Adrianna H. Quiyo, Student Internship Program (SIP) Coordinator, held its internship orientation last July 29 at the St. Maur Auditorium.

Dr. Andres Ignacio C. San Mateo, Jr., Dean of the School of Business, Accountancy and Management, shared that the On-the-Job (OJT) training program is one of the most important parts of a student’s college journey as it serves to prepare them for the “real world.”

He reminds the students to be a Bedan, a person who is ready to serve and do whatever task is assigned to them.

“Be flexible,” Dean San Mateo says, stressing the importance of pakikisama, considering that the students will be exposed to various people as they enter their respective internships.

“Remember the values that were taught to you, remember the kind of discipline that was imposed on you,” he shares as he tells the students to carry out the important learnings and values they learned in the four walls of the classroom as they enter their OJT.

Orientation proper

Prof. Quiyo discussed the SIP process, which includes complying with the pre-internship requirements, presentation of the grading system, and the end of internship requirements, to name a few.

The SIP Coordinator also discussed the Lion’s Pride Accolade, which recognizes the Best Intern and Special Citation recipients per program as determined by a set of criteria that includes attendance, compliance with academic and company requirements, internship grades, employability, and demonstration of core Bedan values such as obedience, discipline, and humility. The recognition happens towards the end of the academic year.

Beyond this, she reminds the students of the importance of pakikipagkapwa-tao, “you have to learn to be flexible, observant; you have to show respect…carry on the values that you learn,” she says.

The deadline of the pre-internship papers for students who will be taking the subject this semester will be on Aug. 11.

Seniors Committee Introduced

During the latter part of the orientation, the Seniors Committee was introduced by Dr. Precy G. Baluarte, Prefect of Student Activities.

She mentioned that due to the challenges in disseminating and cascading updates on the graduation of the previous batch, the Office of Student Affairs (OSA) decided to formulate the Seniors Committee. The main objective of the Committee is to have direct communication with the graduating students.

With this, the members of batch 2026 elected the officers that shall serve as part of the inaugural team of the Seniors Committee, namely Jhulie Ann M. Pasia (IV-BSLM), President; Yuri Andrei B. Morrison (IV-BSIT), Vice President; Jhearie Klyr D. Mendoza (IV-BSP), Secretary; Akio Niño C. Paule (IV-BSA), Treasurer, and Jose Mari B. Aguidan (IV-BSLM), Public Relations Officer.

The Seniors Committee is expected to work with the OSA, under the moderatorship of Dr. Baluarte, to assist and plan out activities for this year’s graduating batch, such as a possibility of a Graduation Ball.

According to Pasia, they plan to organize activities and projects that will prepare the seniors as soon-to-be professionals. “We are coming up with fun and exciting events to conclude our final year as Bedans,” she mentions.

The Committee envisions leaving behind a legacy for this year’s graduating batch and creating lasting traditions in the institution.
