MEETING and playing alongside their sports hero is a dream cherished by every student-athlete. Participating teams that advanced to the ANTA’s Shock the Game tournament finals had the opportunity to meet the four-time National Basketball Association (NBA) Champion, Klay Thompson, and three-time NBA Champion, teammate Kevon Looney, last Aug. 31 at SM Megamall.
The ANTA Shock the Game tournament was a 4-on-4 match amongst teams and universities across the Philippines. The tournament's elimination rounds were held from June 24 to Aug. 27 at schools in Metro Manila, Cavite, Pampanga, and Cebu. Aside from attending the tournament with Looney, his fellow ANTA ambassador, Thompson visited the Philippines to debut his new basketball shoes called the "ANTA KT9." During his visit, the 2016 NBA three-point Champion also held basketball clinics and a meet-and-greet with his Filipino fans.
During their two-day visit, Thompson remarked, "It's so great to be in a place where basketball is their first passion." This shows how Filipinos welcomed them with overwhelming warmth, and how the players made their presence felt around the world.
