LAST Feb. 19 to 23, the Bedan Information Technology Society (BITS) held an online Electronic Sports (E-sports) tournament that was open to the college students of San Beda College Alabang (SBCA) to compete during the School of Engineering and Technology (SET) Week. The event consists of three games, Valorant, Mobile Legends, and Minecraft. Tertiary School students quickly gathered their teams and signed up to win the title of champions and a cash prize of P1,500.
The Undefeatable Warriors from Land of Dawn
The Mobile Legends Tournament was a two-day event consisting of Round Robins with best of three matches. The teams that participated in the tournament were Nexus Valor, Choco Mucho, Bang Bros., and Koolpal.
Throughout the tournament, Nexus Valor showed their superb performance to their opponents by not dropping a single game point, making them the most dominant team of the entire tournament. Starting with their Round Robin elimination match points with four and zero and defeating Choco Mucho to a clean sweep in the Championship by three to zero. In an interview with THE BEDAN HERALD, John Ayaen (II BSIT), also known as “Vairocana”, the Most Valuable Player of Nexus Valor, said that the reason behind their victorious run was that even though championships are where everyone is focused on winning, their team prioritized having fun. “While others obsess over victory, we're all about enjoying the game together. Our gameplay reflects this—relaxed, yet coordinated,” Vairocana added.
The Radianite’s Battle of Rivalries
Valorant, which was also a two-day event, had a double-elimination format. Six teams were competing in the tournament namely Titan Jellyace, Team AURA, Beast Mode, MSG Lovers, Uy Ano?!, and Wendogs.
In the heat of the tournament, an intense rivalry took place between MSG Lovers and Beast Mode. The two teams were the opening match of the tournament with MSG Lovers knocking down Beast Mode to the lower brackets. Eventually, Team AURA placed MSG Lovers in the round 2 lower brackets as the two teams met one another again. During their rematch in the lower brackets, Beast Mode showed their adaptability to MSG Lovers and eliminated them in the tournament. Hence, Beast Mode moved up to the Lower Bracket Semis as they were eliminated by Team AURA finishing 3rd place in the tournament.
The underdogs of the tournament, Team AURA, managed to meet Titan Jellyace once again in the finale as they fought for the title of champions in the event. The match started as Team AURA showed their strength in the first half as they went 7-5 with Team AURA members Tiger Commando and Glenn Rhee stomping on Titan Jellyace. But in the second half, Team AURA was met at a standstill as they struggled to defend the sites where the bombs would be planted. Eventually, Titan Jellyace got the momentum to win the match and they were crowned the champions of the tournament.
During an interview with Titan Jellyace’s MVP Miguel Angelo S. Hidalgo (I BSIT), also known as Chitaiiii, stated that despite it being their very first time playing Valorant together, they adjusted over time as he quotes “As soon as we got adjusted, we were able to breeze through the games with ease.” Chitaiiii added.
A Tale of a Heroic Minecrafter
The Minecraft building competition only had one team entry which was from Cryptic Gateway with their build “VALONDO”. The story of their build was about an evil entity called “Dhoraken”, being summoned upon the world and the king of the village was set to find a powerful knight mage to defend the land and banish Dhoraken from the world.
The SET Week Electronic Sports (E-sports) tournament came to a close with Nexus Valor being crowned as champion in Mobile Legends, alongside Titan Jellyace for Valorant. In contrast, the epic storytelling of Cryptic Gateway showcased their creativity and teamwork through Minecraft.
