SBCA temporarily suspended on-site face-to-face classes on Aug. 26 and shifted to online learning for students from the Integrated Basic Education Department (IBED) to the Tertiary-Graduate Schools, following an unverified safety concern reported late Tuesday evening, Aug. 25.

In a notice released by the Office of the Rector, Fr. Gerardo Ma. De Villa, OSB, Rector-President of SBCA, said that the administration made the decision “out of an abundance of caution” in being able to ensure the safety and security of the entire SBCA community.

Furthermore, the Rector-President stated that the shift and suspension of on-site classes serve as a precautionary measure, with the security personnel and local authorities conducting routine sweeps of the campus premises to ensure that the area remains safe.

“This is a precautionary measure as the school completes necessary safety protocols in coordination with the appropriate authorities,” the statement provides.

The Rector-President urged the SBCA community to remain calm and obtain information only through the school’s official communication channels.

In another statement released by the Office of the Rector, on-site classes for Aug. 27, Thursday, will resume in accordance with its regular schedule, following the campus safety inspections and security checks by the school administration in coordination with the Muntinlupa City Police Station.

“Authorities have concluded their assessments, and the physical campus has been declared fully safe and clear for the return of the students, faculty and personnel,” the Rector-President stated.

The Office of the Rector also expressed its gratitude towards the students, parents, faculty, and staff for their patience, composure, and cooperation as the necessary safety protocols were carried out. “The safety, security, and well-being of our entire Bedan community remain our highest ongoing priority.”
