SASE’s Commitment to Excellence and Community

By Maristella Mae Magdangal | July 2, 2025

THE School of Arts, Sciences, and Education (SASE) concludes the academic year with strong achievements in its programs and student organization activities, from international partnerships to student-led initiatives. These accomplishments reflect the school’s continuous efforts to uphold academic excellence.

In an interview with Dr. Rosario Mielmia Aquino, the Dean of SASE, she shared that one of the biggest achievements this year was the International Studies (IS) program’s partnership with Thammasat University in Thailand, one of the largest universities in Southeast Asia. This opportunity allowed students to attend global conferences.

Dean Aquino also highlighted the Communication and Media Studies (CMS) department’s media lab upgrades, which include new equipment to help students practice real-world broadcasting. Their organization, Tatak Bedista, has also been consistent in covering school and national events.

Contributing to the success, the Psychology department continued its strong performance in the Psychometrician Licensure Exams. Licensed professionals, Ms. Michelle Macahilig and Ms. Rac General, remained actively involved in National Professional Organizations. The psychology students are also proactively practicing their future professions.

The Education Department also achieved a 100% passing rate on the licensure exams, with graduates quickly finding jobs or starting businesses, showing the program’s focus on preparing students for the real world.

Strength Through Challenges

In an interview with Lanzy Borja (II-BSED), the president of the Bedan Educators’ Society (BEdS), he shared that the organization had a tough year with no major events. “We had a planned event, but it got scrapped kasi onti lang sa’min ang gumagawa,” he shared. Despite this, they shifted to collaborating with other organizations in hopes of setting up future partnerships.

Borja also said that he will stay as the president of BEdS next school year, with hopes of having members who can cooperate. “Sana, my org members can cooperate and contribute na rin sa mga upcoming na events namin for the year.”

Building Unity Through Wins

The Bedan Psychological Society (BPS) made history by winning both Sing and Dance and Battle Cry categories during the integration, Arisa Cascalla (III-BSP), Internal Vice President of BPS, shared that “securing the top spot in both categories is a historic first for BPS and stands as a truly remarkable milestone for the organization.”

They acknowledged the challenges in managing events and finding time due to different time schedules, but teamwork strengthened them. They were most proud of their events since they brought people together to have fun and be heard, seen, and valued.

BPS also organized community events such as Elsie Gaches visits, where they made children feel seen, valued, and cared for, and along with the Psychology Week, which made the community feel supported and connected through experiences. The organization stood for something bigger than itself.

“Overall, I think we’ve set a good pace and example that can motivate the next officers to aim higher and keep the spirit of BPS alive and growing,” Cascalla hoped.

Strengthening Student Voices

The Beda.Comm made projects that shared SASE’s stories and trained students. They also produced a Disaster Awareness video on earthquake and fire safety for the campus, participated in film competitions, and produced documentaries. They also launched Tunog Bedista, a podcast and radio platform for students' voices.

The main event of the organization was Media and Beyond, which focused on storytelling in modern media and teaching media skills to all CMS students.

Ymmanuel Torres (IV-CMS), Beda.Comm president shared that the organization struggled since their manpower was lacking for their big projects. During the first semester, they encountered a problem with a lack of equipment, but were financially supported in the second semester.

One big win for them was leading the marketing for Pista ng Sto. Niño 2025, even if the School of Law was the host, the institution entrusted CMS with the promotions. “This responsibility marked a pivotal step in recognizing our department’s capabilities and trustworthiness in executing large-scale events,” Torres shared.

Torres is confident that the next set of officers will build upon their achievements and bring fresh perspectives and energy to bring the organization to even greater heights.

Awareness to Action

The Bedan International Studies Association (BISA) had a significant influence in promoting historical reflection and political awareness. One of these events was the People Power Talk, sharing historical, personal, and legal perspectives on the 1986 revolution and the Marcos dictatorship.

One of BISA’s biggest challenges and highlights was organizing SBCA MUN, which was cut short due to a typhoon. Despite this, it became a milestone as Thammasat University participated for the first time. BISA also hosted events such as “Election 2025: Vote, Voice, and Vision” and “Leader Under the Lens,” which broadened the students' perspectives on accountability and national issues.

“I want the set officers to find ways to empower IS students in voicing their ideas and opinions on social issues and help them be ready for the working world,” Jose Canivel (III-BAIS), Internal Vice President of BISA, said. He also hopes to see improvement in the organization to leave a meaningful impact on the entire IS student body.

A Vision of Success

Dean Aquino hopes for continued growth, “A higher enrollment," she said, and hopes for "more students and to continue what we are doing.” She also emphasized the need to strengthen the faculty and programs.

Despite challenges, SASE found ways to succeed, from BISA's global partnership to BPS’s big wins, Beda.Comm’s media projects, and BEdS’s plans for the future.
