Reyes says, “My leadership is like an unfinished book.”

By Ma. Andrea Jermaine P. Del Mar | April 26, 2024

“WE are all here today seeking for the right type of leadership and that’s what I advocate for,” Jules Mykel Reyes (III-BSBA-MM) said in her introductory speech during the Boto Beda 2024: Tapatang Halalan, Diskursong Tapatan last April 25.

Despite being the incumbent SEC President, Reyes is keen on making further changes and to continue being the voice of the students. She mentioned that one year is not sufficient for her and the Student Executive Council (SEC) to implement the vision they have for the school due to other priorities such as academics. Her platforms include Remember to Care, Bedan Bayanihan, Concessionaires for a Cause, and others. She further emphasized her vision for the school: excellence, wellness, and inclusivity.

During the segment of Boses ng mga Bedista, Reyes faced her first question regarding an interview with THE BEDAN HERALD about the students’ apathy. She claimed that it is not solely because of the projects, but the “internal and external factors” and the way that the SEC uses a “multi-faceted approach.” Reyes cited the Leadership Training Seminar as one of her examples wherein it is not the usual lectures, and they added a “twist” by inculcating water guns, karaoke, and other fun activities. Reyes then enumerated some of the projects that the SEC produced this academic year: Integration and Mr. and Ms. San Beda.

To end the portion, Reyes introduced one of her projects “SEC Assessed”, in an attempt to let the student body evaluate and provide feedback on the services the SEC will be giving. However, when the topic of press freedom surged, Reyes was able to express her side of what happened last January at the Mr. and Ms. San Beda. “During that day, I acknowledge the event. I take full accountability with it,” Reyes said as she accepted the mishaps that usually come with creating school-wide events. She further explained that they were occupied with accomplishing the necessary protocols and guidelines from different buildings in the school.

As for Reyes’ stances on issues, she is not in favor of mandatory ROTC, jeepney phaseout, and charter change. Meanwhile, she refrained from taking a side with regards to using artificial intelligence (AI) in the academe and the “No Permit, No Exam” Policy.
