LAST Feb. 11, the much-anticipated opening of the 20th Season of Men’s National Collegiate Athletic Association (MNCAA), entitled “Regaining Ground @ 20,” took place in the Rizal Memorial Coliseum. The event brought together student-athletes from various member schools, championing the spirit of camaraderie.

Commencement at 20

The event commenced with the MNCAA executives and board of trustees parading around the court grounds of the Rizal Memorial Coliseum, proudly carrying the league's trademark flag. This was followed by a display of school pride as teams from different participating schools took center stage, waving the banners and flags of their respective institutions up high.

This season's competition featured Centro Escolar University, Enderun Colleges, the Philippine Women's University, San Beda College Alabang, St. Dominic College of Asia, the University of Asia & the Pacific, and the University of the Philippines Manila, while the University of Makati declared to be on leave for the season.

“It is truly an honor to stand before you today as we kick off a new season of competition, camaraderie, and sportsmanship. We are gathered here not only to celebrate the exceptional skills of our student-athletes but also the spirit of teamwork and perseverance,” a rousing speech from the Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of the MNCAA, Ms. Marian Vivian P. Manila, signifying the official start of the season.

The officials also extended their heartfelt thanks to all the school administrators, representatives, and sponsors who helped make the dream of the 20th season of the MNCAA into reality. The players then took an oath of sportsmanship, symbolizing that all the games should be done with goodwill and high spirits

Streetdance Steals the Spotlight

After the oath-taking, the players took their leave from the court to make way for the MNCAA Streetdance Competition. After the introduction of the panel of judges and the criteria, the three participating schools—UA&P, CEU, and PWU—set the court ablaze with their astounding dance moves, making the battle for first place cutthroat. Next came special dance performances from guest group Mapua NEXUS and the judges, leaving the audience in awe.

Following an impressive performance, the University of Asia & the Pacific clinched the championship title in this season’s street dance competition.

As the opening unfolds and comes to a close, the official start of the 20th season begins. The court is then prepared for the first basketball game of the season, between the University of Asia & the Pacific Dragons, and the Centro Escolar University Scorpions.
