By Johanna Nieva |  May 12, 2024

A TIGHTLY matched battle between the Women’s basketball teams of the SBCA Red Lions and the Philippine Christian University (PCU) Dolphins occurred last May 4 at Emilio Aguinaldo Campus (EAC) - Dasmariñas City Campus.

The Red Lions started the game strong by scoring the first point, but the PCU Dolphins soon followed. After a closely fought match, SBCA managed to take the lead. However, at the last minute, PCU turned the tide as the first quarter ended with a score of 20-22 in favor of the opposing team.

The Red Lions’ momentum kept them at a steady pace throughout the second and third quarters. In both quarters, the Red Lions caught up with PCU, gaining the advantage. Both teams exchanged points in a back-and-forth fashion. During the last moments of the game, the PCU Dolphins clutched with both quarters’ scores being 34-37 and 50-53, respectively.

The intensity heightened even further as the game entered its last quarter, with the first point being scored by the PCU Dolphins four minutes into the game. PCU scored consistently, but the Red Lions managed to close the sizable gap during the last two minutes. The Red Lions ultimately fell short, with the final score being 61-64.

In an interview with THE BEDAN HERALD, when asked how it felt to compete with the PCU Dolphins, Kiara Villanueva (II-BSBA-FM), the team captain, said it was a great opportunity to go against the defending champions. “Parang magandang chance siya samin [para makita] kung hanggang saan mararating namin sa eliminations and semi-finals.” Villanueva also expressed that despite the loss their team faced, they are looking forward to their next games. She expressed her gratitude towards her coaches for putting faith in her as a team captain and urged the Bedan community to support the Red Lions in their upcoming games for the NCAA South Season 25.
