Psykhelites Become Fearless

By Gwyneth Porlahe |  August 31, 2023

“LET'S all get out there and be head first, fearless,” said Janelle Ilao (III-BSP), BPS Internal Vice President. Psykhelites showed that despite the challenges they face as a student, they would still fearlessly show up with their strong personas not only during the department's first event but even for this school year.

The Bedan Psychological Society (BPS) held its General Assembly at the Rosendo Hall last Aug. 25 with the theme, “Fearless: Psykhelities Assembly 2023.” The event started off with the opening remarks from BPS President, Bianca Lavin (III-BAP). She shared an inspirational message to her fellow Psykhelites, “If you can’t be fearless, then try to fear less.” Lavin also reminded the Psychology community that their blockmates, friends, and family, just like BPS, are there for them during terrifying moments. "Bedan Psychological Society is a tight-knit family that does not only pursue excellence and competence but also warmth, community, and love." Lavin added.

Ms. Roma Wynn Sedo, the Dean of Student Affairs, gave a short message where she mentioned that upon receiving the invitation letter for the general assembly, she thought of the reason behind the event’s theme. She expressed that it then occurred to her Taylor Swift's "Fearless" and its symbolic meaning: "The album is about being fearless in love and life and encourages listeners to take chances and embrace their emotions," she said. Along with this, Dean Sedo reminded the Psykhelites that it is okay not to be okay.

During the event, the Executive Board of BPS for A.Y. 2023-2024 was introduced along with their Moderator and Department Chair,  Prof. Michelle Macahilig. This was followed by the announcement of a snap election for the First Year-level Representative. Amiel Nikolai Abayon (I-BSP), the lone candidate, had the opportunity to share his campaign speech during the assembly.

The Executive Board also took the opportunity to present the future events that the students may look forward to and announced their new projects: Psych Access, which provides transparency for all the expenses and funds of the organization, and Psych Support, where small business owners from the Psychology Department can promote their business and collaborate with the organization for sponsorships.

The most-awaited part of the event is the raffle with Apple AirPods Pro 2 as the prize. Patricia Saulo (II-BAP) and Xyroh Germo (IV-BSP) who were randomly picked were the lucky students who won the raffle prize.
