THE Bedan Psychological Society (BPS) held its “PsychWeek” on April 3-5, with the theme "Psych Avatar—Bending Adversity,” inspired by the cartoon series “Avatar” with the primary goal of bringing students together. The event started with the opening remarks of Prof. Michelle Macahilig, the Department Chair of Psychology and BPS Moderator, as she hoped that everyone would enjoy the week.
PsychFair for a Cause
Reign Rafiñian (II-BSP), second-year level representative and project head, mentioned that PsychFair aims to unite every block for a common purpose: raising funds to be donated to the Philippine Mental Health Association.
Each block was encouraged to set up a booth to provide entertainment or to sell goods. Through these booths, students engage with each other and learn more about their fellow psychology students.
PsychKantahan: Connected Tunes
Alongside the PsychFair was an open PsychKantahan, led by Rhainnelle Liwanag (II-BAP), Vice President for Finance. Liwanag shared that the event aligns with the goal of PsychWeek, as PsychKantahan provides an opportunity for students—not just Psychology majors but anyone who attended—to bond with their peers.
PsychCine: Through the Lens
To further hold the bonds of the Psykelites, the PsychCine, held at Bellarmine Hall, featured two movies: The Perks of Being a Wallflower and A Man Called Otto.
Johnpaul Consunji (I-BAP), first-year level representative and event head of PsychCine, shares that the films have a strong psychological connection. As project head, Consunji aimed to highlight the existence of such individuals and the need for acceptance. In the second film, the man called Otto appears to be growing older, as are other people. Its relevance lies in depicting the opposite end of the aging spectrum rather than the typical depiction of daily life.
“Another difference is that this year, Psychweek is more enjoyable for the students because there are additional external concessionaires, and in that way, it expands the students’ horizon to the sellers and people around them,” Rafiñian shared in an interview with THE BEDAN HERALD.
The PsychWeek concluded with the crowning of the new Mr. and Ms. Psychology last April 5, a night of talent, confidence, and Psykelite pride.
