ORGANIZED by the Student Executive Council (SEC), the pre-pageant for Mr. and Ms. San Beda (MMSB) 2026 was held last Jan. 14, at the St. Maur Auditorium, highlighting student identity, cultural pride, and Bedan talent with the theme “World-Class Gandang Bedista.”
The event featured talent and traditional wear segments with candidates from 10 organizations representing different countries on stage. Supported by judges, partners, and sponsors, the event drew a lively crowd and despite starting a bit late, the event finished on time.
During his welcoming remarks, Atty. Juan Ruffo D. Chong, Director of Tertiary and Graduate School, reminded the attendees that the pageant goes beyond physical appearance and serves as a venue to honor student passion and courage.
He emphasized that the pageant serves as a celebration of students’ talents, confidence, and character.
It was a message that echoed throughout the event as candidates from ten co-curricular and extra-curricular organizations stepped into the spotlight: Bedan Information Technology Society, Junior Bedan Engineering Society, Junior Bedan Marketing Association, Junior Bedan Law Circle, San Beda Alabang Debate Society, Bedan International Studies Association, Beda.Comm, Bedan Psychological Society, Teatro Bedista, Junior Philippine Institute of Accountants, and Junior People Management Association of the Philippines.
The event featured two segments: the talent performance and the traditional wear presentation. Each pair represented a country, ranging from Brazil, South Korea, Greece, India, the United Kingdom, and the Philippines.
The performances were then evaluated by three panels: Mr. Roderick Santos a freelance events host, Mr. Nico Endiape an Integrated Basic Education Department (IBED) administrator, and Mr. Jerome Padernal from the Physical Education department.
The program also highlighted student-industry partnerships, acknowledging sponsors such as AsiaPrime Beauty and Wellness, Asiafit Premium Drink Mix, El Primo Premium Coffee Mix, Maria Clara Cosmetics, Ystilo Salon, and Sinag.co.
The SEC stated that the ticketing process went well, with only small delays from walk-in guests buying tickets at the venue. Despite starting late, the event finished on time, and all attendees, including e-ticket holders, were seated on a first-come, first-served basis.
The event concluded with SEC President Bea Talarayatne (III-BIAS) and Dean of Student Affairs Prof. Carl Michael Dela Cruz presenting plaques of appreciation to the judges, signaling the close of the preliminary round.
The coronation night of this year’s Mr. and Ms. San Beda will happen on Friday, Jan. 16, at the SBCA football field.
