"Now is an extraordinary time for us to become parents and teachers [of] our children [as they] are [being] flooded with too much information and disinformation that can be easily accessed through the web and social media, which brings serious concerns for all of us," said Ms. Do An Miranda, the Tertiary School's Parent Faculty Council (PFC) President, during the seminar held at Rosendo Herrera Hall last Jan. 19 with the topic, ‘A Discussion on Positive Communication for Teachers and Parents.’

In collaboration with the PFC and the Office of Student Affairs, the event discussed different aspects of communication that parents and teachers are trying to bring, and with it is the hope that positivity comes with it for their child.

The event’s guest speaker, Armando Ma. Trinidad Jr. is a senior consultant for data privacy for Ernst & Young Philippines and an alumnus of batch 2000 of San Beda College Alabang (SBCA). At the beginning of his talk, he disclaimed that, even though he is not an expert on the topic, he could still share insights and possible solutions as a parent with his own experiences towards raising a child.

The speaker highlighted that each child has different responsibilities and teaching styles; thus, he also tackled what has worked for his family.

As the seminar progressed, he introduced the three "hats"—the protective, the coaching, and the consultant hat—symbolizing the developmental stages parents and teachers likely manifest for the children. "As we are all parents here, we all want what's best for our children," Trinidad Jr. said.

Before his discussion ended, Mr. Trinidad Jr. shared his experience of being the speaker, reminiscing as his father once used to be a speaker himself, coincidentally with a similar topic that revolves around communication, in which he recalled the shared bond that they had through the song they both loved, "Father and Son" by Cat Stevens.

In her closing remarks, Ms. Roma Wynn Sedo, Dean for Student Affairs, emphasized that other than the school being the second home for students, it aims to commit to a holistic approach to developing its students. “To our participants, our dear parents, we hope that his discussion has further equipped you with the power that is already in you, the power of positive communication," Dean Sedo said.
