ADORNED in black and gold attire, the Junior Philippine Institute of Accountants (JPIA), the co-curricular organization of the Accountancy department, glimmered at JPIA Night. The JPIA Community celebrated student excellence with the theme “Launching the Future, Built on a Strong Foundation.”
Atty. Juan Ruffo D. Chong, the Dean of the School of Business, Accountancy, and Management, believes that excellence is when you start exceeding expectations and that JPIA has surpassed his expectations despite the number of workloads they have. “I hope that in this academic year and until the end of the school year, we will continue to reap an abundant harvest of wonderful works coming from JPIA,” the SBAM dean said.
Exceptional students were recognized with special citations highlighting their achievements throughout the school year, embodying the ideals of “Puso, Utak, at Talino.” Atty. Chong, Prof. Roma Wynn C. Sedo, the Dean for Student Affairs, Ms. Maria Exequiel S.J. Panaguiton, Department Chairperson and JPIA moderator, and Yzha Erika D. Mirandilla (IV-BSAIS), outgoing president, gave their awards.
The excellence of JPIA students transverses in their endeavors in and outside the campus. The 9th Panfilo O. Domingo Cup Jr., organized by the University of the East-Manila, declared SBCA delegates 1st runner-up. While in the 4th Tanglaw Cup, organized by the Polytechnic University of the Philippines-Manila, the accountancy students climbed to the top seven. For the Exceed 2024 Business Case Competition, SBCA students ended in the top eight. At the same time, Nathan Casacop (IV-BSA) was awarded champion for the Maharnilad Cup Series 2024. Various other awards were given that night, including the Top 4 of the 6th Filemon Cup, the Top 4 and 5 for the Phoenix Cup 2024: Ignited Tributes Fueled by Flame, Passion, and Intellect, the 6th place for the 15th PUP Pylon Cup, and finally, The Future of Accountancy: A Symposium on Enhancing Accounting Education with Singapore Institute of Management.
Prof. Panaguiton expressed her thanks to the JPIA officers and all the students who continue to excel in their endeavors. “Our success would not be possible without each and every one of us,” the department chairperson said.
A turnover ceremony spearheaded by the Bedan Electoral Committee also took place, solidifying the seats and officially recognizing the newly elected officers for the academic year 2024-2025.
Finally, to close the event, Sean Joseph D. Mendoza, the newly appointed JPIA president, delivered his closing remarks, shedding light on the importance of not diminishing oneself. “Don't diminish yourself because you feel that you haven't been enough because you always win every day,” Mendoza said.
