JFINEX’s General Assembly Anchors the Present, Sails to Progress

Written by John Marion G. De Guzman | September 3, 2025

LAST Aug. 28, the Junior Financial Executives (JFINEX) held their annual general assembly at the Rosendo Herrera Hall, under the theme of ‘Old Money’ and with the vision of ‘Anchor’—serving as its central theme for the entire academic year.

The assembly commenced as Atty. Juan Ruffo D. Chong, Director of Tertiary and Graduate Education, delivered his opening remarks, emphasizing that the younger generation shouldn’t be swayed by materialistic things, as they don’t ultimately matter.

Atty. Chong emphasized that one’s generational wealth shouldn’t be defined by living a life for oneself but in pursuit of service to others. He further expressed his support for the organization and all of its activities that it plans to undertake.

“So, the challenge now is, what is your generational wealth? Is it the cars and houses you pass on to your kids, or is it something more meaningful—how you affect lives, imbibe a sense of integrity, and live a life in service to others?” he remarked.

Marking New Beginnings
The assembly proceeded with an inspirational talk by JFINEX moderator, Prof. John Castillo, who shared his insights, expectations, and vision for the organization.

“Being old doesn’t mean being stuck in the past; it means that we’ve stood the test of time… Some things gain more value in time—time value of money, investments, and tradition ‘di ba?” he stated.

With an emphasis on the importance of traditions, stating that traditions are the old money of an organization, he introduced a new oath, a tradition he hoped to be carried out by the next generations of JFINEX—a pinning ceremony, marking the beginning of their journey as members, symbolizing unity, responsibility, and the pride of belonging to something greater than oneself.

The officers and members of the organization then affixed their ‘pins of promise’ to their ID laces, symbolizing a shared commitment to the journey they will undertake together.

Subsequently, JFINEX then transitioned to welcoming their newly elected officers and representatives in a formal oath-taking, stating their commitment to their constitution and by-laws, responsibilities, and service towards its members.

Anchoring Towards Progress
Sophia Dulce (IV-BSBA-FM), President of JFINEX, extended her warm welcome and thanked all of the students and faculty present for taking their time to attend, while also introducing their theme for the school year— “Anchor.”

“An anchor keeps the ship steady, even through strong waves. And in the same way, we want JFINEX to be that anchor for all of us,” she said.

Dulce expressed that just like an anchor, they wanted JFINEX to be something that would keep them stable, united, and foster a sense of belonging. She presented their calendar of activities for  the academic year, which includes the continuation of the financial caravan from the previous year, firm visits, a career pep talk, and Christmas outreach, during which a financial literacy campaign will be launched.

“Let’s build JFINEX to a community, where each one of us can say ‘I am proud to belong here,’” she stated as she concluded her presidential speech, formally bringing a close to the assembly.

In an interview with THE BEDAN HERALD, Dulce wishes for the financial management JFINEX students to be more engaged and united throughout the school year; integrating their passion and persistence, the organization will flourish and grow as a community where its members are proud to be part of.

When asked about her sentiments for the general assembly, she shared that the assembly went well, but not in the way they had planned it to be. Dulce highlighted how the event transformed from being a formal event and naturally shifted to being fun and engaging.

“Through this experience, I realized that Financial Management students have the potential to build a truly great and supportive community. It became a wonderful way to kick off the year, filling me with hope for the projects ahead. Thanks to the dedication of the entire JFINEX team, the General Assembly turned into a real success,” she added.
