“AS future Bedan engineers, the world is rapidly revolving as well as the role of engineers. How we think, create, and solve problems makes it easier,” these were the words of Prof. Precy Baluarte, Prefect of Student Activities, during her opening remarks in a seminar organized by the Junior Bedan Engineering Society (JBES) last Feb. 10  at the Rosendo Herrera Hall.

The seminar, themed  “Unlocking Academic Potential with Microsoft Azure: Cloud Tools for Learning, Teaching, and Research”, aimed to connect engineering theory with innovation.

Eugene Peter Palacios, a technical software architect with over 20 years of experience in enterprise solutions, software architecture, and cloud technologies, served as the first speaker of the event. He discussed the history of cloud computing and its impact on today’s technological landscape.

Palacios highlighted the advantages and limitations of cloud computing in the context of using it as an important tool, noting that although it may be expensive, it is a long-term investment.

On the other hand, Engr. Carob Andal Pascual, an electronics engineer with extensive experience in electronics engineering, served as the second speaker for the event. Pascual, a field application engineer from Würth Elektronik, an electronics company, shared various aspects of his work.

In sharing his experiences, he reminded the students,  “Wag masyadong malula. Ang importante is yung mga terms.” Instead of being overwhelmed with the amount of technical concepts and ideas engineering students must learn, he told them,  “Basta enjoy the journey.”

As a Filipino engineer working in an international company, Pascual shared the company’s plans to expand in the country and eventually open an office in Alabang, seeing the Philippines as a huge potential. “We actively support engineering activities, especially here in the Philippines,” he added.

He also discussed the importance of capacitors, pointing out how they have been utilized in recent years. He discussed the increasing demand for capacitors within the electronics industry by identifying their different uses and kinds.

To better engage with the audience during the seminar, the speaker gave out books and electronic components to help students further their learning in electronics and beyond.

In her closing remarks, Kathlyne Mai Brual (III-BSECE), JBES President, encouraged the future Bedan engineers to build bridges that the next generation will cross. This bridge, according to her, is built on the values of persistence and imagination.

“Theory gives us the rules of the universe, but innovation gives us the courage to rewrite how we live within them,” Brutal emphasized.
