JBES General Assembly Marks Start of Growth and Innovation for Bedan Engineers

Written by King Vincent M. Banaag | August 28, 2025

THE Junior Bedan Engineering Society (JBES) gathered at the Rosendo Herrera Hall last Aug. 20 for its annual General Assembly, welcoming students, faculty, and newly inducted officers with a program filled with inspiration, plans, and camaraderie.

The event, which marked the official start of JBES’ activities for the school year, opened with remarks from Engr. Jerry V. Turingan, Dean of the School of Engineering and Technology (SET). He reassured students who may feel uncertain about their chosen field, emphasizing that teamwork and mutual support are vital to success in engineering.

Meanwhile, Camille Juliana Matsuo (II-BSIE) said she was hopeful after hearing the department’s plans to establish new engineering facilities. She added that since their courses require hands-on activities, having laboratories would help them enhance their skills and become more prepared.

After the opening remarks, JBES formally transitioned to its new set of officers and presented the organization’s bylaws, which underwent some revisions this year, including the removal of committees in favor of having executives only to streamline operations.

They also presented their upcoming projects for the academic year, such as the Plant Visit, the Arduino Uno Seminar, and Outreach Programs. Students expressed enthusiasm for the initiatives, noting the department’s commitment to growth despite its relatively small population compared to other programs at SBCA.

Kathlyne Mai K. Brual (III-BSECE), president of JBES, said, “Hindi aware ang San Beda Alabang community na may engineering dito sa San Beda College Alabang.” From this problem, for her first term, she expressed her hopes for a collaborative year ahead to ensure the success of their projects and events.

Brual also emphasized her goal of raising the organization’s presence both inside and outside SBCA, particularly by promoting the engineering programs to senior high school students.

The assembly concluded with closing remarks from Dr. Aristotle Musni, moderator of JBES, who expressed gratitude to the officers and faculty members for guiding the students. He underscored the importance of collective willingness in ensuring JBES’s success this academic year. “Our true strength lies in our unity, and the success of our endeavors will always be built upon dedication, perseverance, and mutual respect,” he said.

With new leaders, renewed plans, and a united community, JBES enters the academic year ready to strengthen its presence in SBCA and foster the growth of Bedan engineers.
