Intense Showdown: SBCA Women’s Basketball Team Falls Short Against PWU

EXEMPLIFYING the Bedan spirit and radiating enthusiasm, the San Beda College Alabang (SBCA) Women’s Basketball Team faced an intense yet close match against Philippine Women’s University (PWU) last Oct. 19 at Chiang Kai Shek College (CKSC).

The game started with a tightly contested match, with both teams taking turns to score. By the end of the first quarter, the Red Lions were short by one point with a score of 12-13 in favor of the PWU team. However, The Red Lions were not affected by the opposing team’s leading score as they continued to advance their gameplay, finishing the second quarter with them being six points ahead.

Despite the competition being extremely tight and the scores being very close, the Red Lion’s momentum kept them throughout the third quarter. The team’s performance started to become unstable as the fourth quarter began when PWU started to gain ground in the standings, making it challenging for the Red Lions to regain their pace. With seven minutes left on the clock, the scores tied at 43-43. The team was eager to win, but the opposing team continued to score in the remaining time.

In the face of their loss against PWU, the Red Lions showed an exceptional performance that made the crowd loudly cheer for them. With the final score of 47-61, the SBCA Women’s Basketball Team finished their game with a strong sense of passion and valuable lessons with the guidance of Coach Jayen Cruz and Coach Lovette Macalinga.

In an interview with THE BEDAN HERALD, Kiara Villanueva (II-BSBA-FM), the team captain, expressed her gratitude to their coaches for trusting the team and guiding them throughout the season. And to her teammates, “Despite sa loss today, sana magtiwala parin sila sa coaches namin and mag-strive parin po sa best kasi alam ko may mabibigay parin po sila sa team.”
