Navigating Change in the Workplace at the HR Congress

“Change is constant,” as emphasized throughout the series of talks at the “Human Resource Congress: The Future of the Workplace,” organized by the Junior People Management Association of the Philippines last Mar. 28 at the Tugade Auditorium.

     The event featured seminars and discussions with multiple speakers. It brought together Human Resources professionals, HR Students, and Senior High School students from various educational institutions as an opportunity for discourse and to foster a larger network.

     In his keynote address, Dr. Andres Ignacio C. San Mateo Jr., Vice President of Academic Affairs, began by emhpasizing the importance of HR in the workplace, as he said, “Change is constant.” He also mentioned that it is a challenge for HR professionals to navigate the modern era, especially with the rise of AI.

     The second speaker, Prof. Karen Borillo, explored HR’s role and its evolution in the present years. “The biggest challenge of HR is change.” One of the most notable changes was Artificial Intelligence's emergence in the workplace. “We need to change our mindset towards AI,” she said. Delving deeper into her points, AI is presented as a “tool for efficiency and productivity.” Ending her discussion with “AI is here to stay,” she mentions that it is necessary for creativity, imagination, & innovation.

     Human Capital Consultant and Leadership Coach Tiana Sioson is rounding out the discussions, whose discussion prompted talks about corporate life and debunked the myths surrounding it. She emphasized that people choose the corporate world “for career growth, job security, and most importantly, opportunities.” Further supporting the idea of pursuing the approach for non-linear careers to cultivate “resilience, adaptation, relationships, and skills.”

     In attendance were Trimex Colleges, the Polytechnic University of the Philippines, the University of Makati, the Eulogio "Amang" Rodriguez Institute of Science and Technology, and Senior High School Students of SBCA.
