History repeats itself: No elected SEC officers for A.Y ‘23-’24

By Carlos Sealtiel Ilagan |  June 18, 2023

THE Bedan Electoral Committee (BELCOM) announced the long-awaited election results for the Student Executive Council (SEC) A.Y ‘23-’24 last June 16. Initially, the voting period, conducted online via Zoom, was held from May 29 to June 2. However, it was extended up until June 5 and again adjusted up until June 6 due to technical issues.

Similar to last year’s elections, none of the candidates—from President down to the Year Level Representatives—met the quota of votes (20%) stated in the by-laws of BELCOM, resulting in a failed election turnout. In their Facebook post, BELCOM reminded the students to “vote next year in order to meet the required number of votes.”

In the meantime, BELCOM stated that there will be an appointment of temporary officers until the next SEC Elections for A.Y. ‘23-’24—a contrast to last year’s elections when the SEC officers were appointed instead of being elected after failing to reach the required number of votes. As of writing, the candidates of Bedistang Aktibong Naglilingkod (BedAn) party-list were appointed as Officers-in-charge (OIC), as commented by OIC Public Relations Officer Fritzen Aldaba (II-BAP), in a shared post on Facebook on June 16.
