GOING beyond what meets the eye, the Bedan Psychological Society (BPS) took an interstellar journey as they held their second semester General Assembly entitled, “BPS 2nd Semester General Assembly: Out of this world!” last Feb. 18 at the Rosendo Herrera Hall—aiming to highlight what comes next for the Psychology department.
In her opening remarks, the BPS External Vice President, Klyr Mendoza (III-BAP) welcomed attendees for the BPS second general assembly and reminded everyone that there is more to look forward to, “Just like the NASA’s endless exploration of the vast unknown, constantly seeking discoveries beyond our world.”
First-year level representative, Johnpaul Consunji (I-BAP), and BPS President, Edric Hicban (III-BAP), discussed the plans for the Psychology department this semester. They highlighted various plans such as Psych Week, an annual event for BPS, “Highlighting the Psykhelite pride!” Consunji said. Hicban also discussed the plan for Psych Night, similar to a high school prom, which aims to connect all Psychology students who have not experienced prom during the pandemic.
Other events to look forward to this second semester are the annual Intramurals Megacrew dance competition, and new BPS merchandise, giving a new sneak peek at their new shirt, stickers, and ID lace design. It was also revealed that there will be the upcoming BPS Elections for S.Y. 2025-2026. The incumbent officers are slowly giving way to the aspiring, new applicants who are soon-to-be future officers. “I’m looking forward also to the future leaders,” said Prof. Michelle Macahilig, the Department Chair of Psychology and BPS Moderator in her speech.
Aligned with an out-of-this-world, alien-like theme, BPS held a costume contest to determine the best alien costume among the Psychology students in attendance. Clarisse Anne Pe (III-BAP) bagged the Best in Costume award for her unique portrayal of a playable character from the survival game Lethal Company, in which the character ventures out to explore moons.
“Our theme for this General Assembly is ‘Out of this World,’ basically kind of like a space or an alien theme, [kind of] just embodies our passion to do more [of] what meets the eye and to always go one hundred percent in everything that we do,” Hicban said in an interview, he also expressed gratitude to those who have guided and supported them, emphasizing the importance of appreciation and community.
In his closing, Hicban expressed his main objective as president. He aimed to ensure that every student felt happy, engaged, and proud to be a Psychology student at SBCA.
