FILIPINO esports remains alive and thriving as local PH teams continue their grind through October in anticipation of the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Mid Season Cup (MSC) esports World Cup, preparing for another season of international and regional tournaments such as the much anticipated M7 world championships coming this January 2026. And with the October qualifiers underway, the Philippines once again finds itself at the center of Southeast Asia’s most competitive esports scene.
Building from the ground up
Months after the glorious win of Team Liquid PH in the MSC tournament in August, local teams like ONIC PH and Blacklist International have begun preparations in light of the upcoming tournament qualifiers. The initial weeks for these organizations proved a challenge to improve. It also saw players return to their respective training grounds as they review plays, adjust to new patches and strategies, honing their own skills, and testing out lineups that best encapsulates winning chemistry.
For some teams such as TNC PRO, Smart Omega and Team falcons, those who are not considered in championship contention, this period in the season is marked as a transition. This is a time to integrate new and effective strategies to winning; to try something new. The qualifiers is a proven ground for such teams ready to make the next leap in their game. With seasoned veterans to hungry novices eager to earn their rightful place on the professional stage — these qualifiers are surely not to disappoint.
Strengthening the Esports Scene
Beyond the matches themselves, October highlighted the continued growth of the Philippine esports ecosystem. Organizations like Blacklist International, Bren Esports, and Team Liquid have invested more heavily in player development, team and system development, and in-house analysts, all aimed at sustaining the country’s global presence.
The community also played its part. Online engagement surged as fans followed their favorite teams and players through livestreams and scrimmages, while smaller tournaments across the country continued to discover new talent. What once began as small local competitions has now evolved into a system that nurtures future champions.
A Continuous Ascent
As the October qualifiers push forward, the story of Filipino esports continues as one built on persistence, teamwork, and passion. Each match serves as a reminder that the country’s strength in competitive gaming goes beyond the victories and trophies; rather it is built on the embodiment of the Pinoy spirit of competitiveness, perseverance, and the love of the game.
