LAST April 12, Eureka, the official Math and Science organization of San Beda College Alabang Tertiary schools, brought back its annual St. Bede Math & Science Quiz Bee: Olympiad 2024 after six long years.
The quiz bee started with the easy round where participants answered the most questions correctly. The middle round began with some struggles for the participants, leading to the difficult round which added pressure as time ran out.
The difficult round ended with a tie between team Gho Uste of University of Santo Tomas - Junior High School and team DLSZC of De La Salle Zobel with a score of 71. In the clincher round, the rule is if one of the teams scores two consecutive points they shall be declared the winner. For the first question, both teams were correct, however, DLSZC managed to get the point which declared them as the winner. Gho Uste tried to contest the result of the answer but still ended up being incorrect.
THE BEDAN HERALD interviewed Layel Karisma A. San Pedro and Justin Rein B. Catabay, members of the winning team, shared their experiences throughout the quiz bee. “Coordination was very important in this, as well as time management and deductive reasoning, as the time limit was set to make us think fast. In the end, we made it though!” said San Pedro.
“Sometimes you just have to have the right team, being at the right place at the right time, making mistakes that you can learn from and especially grow from.” said Catabay.
