THE San Beda College Alabang (SBCA) women’s volleyball team protected its homecourt as they triumphed against Colegio de San Juan de Letran (CSJL) with a three-set victory last May 11.
SBCA secured its first point due to CSJL’s service error. Both teams executed determination and power as they alternately scored points not until there were a few errors and misses from CSJL, resulting in a score of 10-5 in favor of SBCA before the first timeout requested by CSJL. However, SBCA was no stranger to errors, and CSJL gained a scoring streak with their blocks. The first set ended with an effortless toss, with SBCA leading with a score of 25-20.
In the succeeding sets, CSJL tried to bounce back and battle through their powerful blocks led by Delos Santos as they ended SBCA’s scoring streak. But SBCA reigned in the second set with a score of 16-25. During the third set, the scores between the two teams were often neck and neck but SBCA sealed the victory with a winning serve, with a score of 12-25.
In an interview with THE BEDAN HERALD, Liane Pimentel (I- BSECE) expressed her thoughts on winning the recent game. “We’re very happy po na we won, hopefully this win will boost our confidence po sa team and sana magtuloy-tuloy po,” she said. Pimentel also shared how the team prepared for the game and how they focused more on improving their defense. Moreover, the team makes sure that for every game they are prepared not only physically, but also mentally.
Lastly, Pimentel revealed how the team feels about playing in the homecourt, “Actually mas gusto po namin na sa school po ginaganap yung games kasi mas gamay po namin and mas may confidence po kami kasi homecourt po namin.” Stay tuned for the next game as the Red Lions continue to reign.
