CNN Philippines will discontinue operations on all media platforms effective Wednesday, January 31, 2024,” Cable News Network (CNN) Philippines said in the released public advisory on their social media accounts last Jan. 29.

Benjamin Ramos, the President of CNN Philippines, said they will discontinue their news production operations due to “serious financial losses.” The company has accumulated more than P5 billion in financial losses since it first aired in 2015. Nine Media Corp., the media company that operates CNN Philippines, also had a licensing deal with Turner that was supposed to last until the end of December 2024. However, Nine Media decided to terminate the contract sooner.

An estimated 300 employees were affected and lost their jobs due to the ceased operations. Ramos said, "We are aware of the impact of this closure on our valued employees and talents, we assure all affected staff will be provided with severance packages."

Filipino journalists and media outlets shared their sentiments in response to the news that CNN Philippines was shutting down. The National Union of Journalists of the Philippines said, “The loss of another newsroom means one less source of reliable information for the public at a time when disinformation and misinformation are rampant."

After nearly nine years of operations and publishing news to the public, CNN Philippines has turned its final page last Wednesday, Jan. 31.
