By Sophia Anillo | February 18, 2025

THE enduring legacy of CMS students, embodied in their media, took center stage in Beda.Comm President Ymann Torres' statement at the Communication and Media Studies (CMS) General Assembly last February 14, 2025, held at the Rosendo Hall with the theme “Gossip Girl.”

“Kahit wala na tayo dito, yung gawa natin, mag-stay sa institution, at hindi lang sa college, hindi lang sa senior high, sa buong San Beda,” noting the department’s efforts in contributing to the San Beda community, and have set their sights on future plans for the 2nd semester.

The assembly officially began with a recap of the recently achieved milestones of the department, specifically during the Sto. Niño Festival last January. The speakers commended the production team, declaring, "It was truly an inspiring [moment] sa ating CMS." Recognizing the importance of Tatak Bedista and Beda.Comm throughout the Sto. Niño event, they hailed it as a testament to the undeniable talent and dedication of CMS students. A video recap of the Sto. Niño Festival was presented in honor of the production team’s efforts.

Ymann Torres was invited on stage to give a couple of remarks as well. “Sa Sto Niño, palakpakan natin ang ating sarili,” she acknowledged the remarkable efforts of the CMS students from last January and expressed gratitude to all present at the General Assembly. She then proceeded to outline the events Beda.comm has planned for the present semester.

The events encompassed CMS Spotlight, Sunny Side Production, Kwento COMMunidad, the Pinoy Media Congress hosted by ABS-CBN, the Disaster Awareness Campaign, and the Intramurals—all endeavors crafted to both highlight and hone the talents of CMS students. To cap off the pipeline, Media & Beyond 2025 was highlighted, a flagship event for CMS.

Last year’s theme was showcased in a video, positioning Media Beyond as a crucial first step for students pursuing careers in the media industry. The video showcased the five breakout sessions, each catering to different student interests, including advertising, public relations, journalism, film and TV, and photography and art. Surrounded by industry professionals, Media and Beyond provides crucial insights, steering students toward successful media careers. At its heart, the event serves as a vital platform for CMS students to showcase their creativity and skills, establishing a solid foundation for their professional journeys.

This year’s theme marks a return to the essence of storytelling across various platforms, emphasizing communication through writing, film, photography, and more—ultimately uplifting CMS students.
