Finding contentment in the uncertainty of life

BEING target-driven on a particular goal can be the driving force that keeps us going, possibly enabling us to reach heights we never thought we could achieve. If everything goes according to plan, your ego inflates, and suddenly, you believe that everything is possible. But what if things don’t go exactly as planned? Looming in is an overwhelming feeling of disappointment, and that once-inflated ego is reduced to a mere shadow of its former self, humbled after being slapped by reality

You’re Not Right, and That’s Alright

IMAGINE – while having dinner, someone you love begins to talk about a YouTube video they recently watched. The YouTuber in that video was convinced that an Algerian Olympic boxer was unfairly competing because they believed that the athlete was transgender. Even though you try to clarify that this is misinformation, they won’t listen, even though a Google search can easily verify the truth. Frustrated, you begin to question how we came to be in a world where fake news spreads like wildfire and comments from random vloggers are treated as truth.

College Life Inside an Exclusive Village

IT is not often that you get to experience college life inside one of the most luxurious villages in the city, especially for someone from an underprivileged neighborhood. The stark contrast between commuting from the ever-polluted area of Starmall Alabang to the lush, evergreen streets of Alabang Hills can be quite jarring, leaving me with mixed feelings about our campus’s location.

For Degrees, I Digress

BY now, everybody has probably seen the online discourse about whether a degree is necessary for a successful life. While some self-made influencer-entrepreneurs push a narrative of how the knowledge obtained in the academe isn’t necessary for practice, I’d like to deviate from that take and tackle the nuances of its essentiality — why one should get a degree for the sake of being “educated.”

Blessing in Disguise

READING has been a hobby of mine since I was in elementary which eventually adapted my love for creative writing. After entering Junior High School in Riyadh, I joined our school’s publication to further develop my passion for writing. Through that, I learned that there are different ways to write depending on the context. Granted, it was not easy as I also experienced writer’s block and sometimes questioned my ability to write. Nevertheless, I pulled through.

In Defense of Being OA

“ANG OA NG MGA BATA NGAYON,” a common observation that many adults point out on various social media platforms such as Facebook and Twitter. Rants about Generation Z being too sensitive or being “woke” when it comes to different issues is a topic of many hot debates online. A lot of these accusations are often counter-attacked by those accused, claiming that sensitivity to social issues should not be seen as a negative thing. Within the arguments that are continuously gaining heat, it is worth asking whether or not being OA is bad or not.

We live for the hope of it all

I hate March- last month challenged me so much that it pushed me to my limits. It brought the best and worst of me. Before the start of the month, things have been heavy for me physically, emotionally, and mentally. Doubts constantly clouded my mind, demands of various academic requirements pushed me to the brink. I was almost, or maybe to the point of burning out. At the back of my head, I knew it was all part of the process. After all, nothing in life is instant. As they say, it is all part of the grind.
